Top 3 Videos for October 9, 2015! The Jackets, Hear Kitty Kitty, Wavves, Japan’s Own Titty Twister!

It’s Top 3 Video time! The top 3 Indies artist’s videos chosen by the on-air team and me and given airplay on our FM radio show in Japan, “WTF?” (What the Funday?) for the week of October 9, 2015!

Today, first up is an artist from Zurich, Switzerland named “The Jackets.” Their webpage says, “Combining sixties garage, mod, ’77 punk rock, psychedelia and their devotion to bands like The MC5, The Monks, and The Music Machine, The Jackets bring a dynamic recipe to the garage rock ‘menu.'”  And they’ve been getting lots of airplay recently in Hollywood on Rodney on the Roq! Wow! Well done!

Next up is a band from Los Angeles called, Hear Kitty Kitty. Their Facebook page describes them as a pop punk/rock/alternative band. This song was featured on another Top Video countdown that I did the song selection for, but I like it so much, it’s back! And, not to mention, they are currently touring the USA! At #1 is this band called the Wavves and it is their debut on the countdown! Wavves is an American rock band, based in San Diego, California.

FREEBIE! Finally, today’s freebie. This week is a Japanese rock band from Kyushu (Kyushu again!?) Kyushu is Japan’s Southernmost island (my mom was born in Kokura!) and this is the band’s third time on our countdown! Their name is Titty Twister! I LOVE THIS BAND! Here they are doing a cover of the Chula Vista California punk band, “The Zeros.”

It’s Top 3 Video time! The top 3 Indies artist’s videos chosen by me and given airplay on our FM radio show in Japan, “WTF?” (What the Funday?) (Please come “Like” our FB page: https://www.facebook.com/WhattheFunday76.1?ref=hl)

Before we start, I have to give a Hat Tip to my friend, Christopher Jack in Kyushu, Japan (that’s the southernmost island). Christopher has been turning me onto lots of cool music recently (like some of today’s countdown!) Christopher is in the band the Routes. We have been playing the Routes constantly recently on this countdown and on the radio show. OK. Let’s go! First up today, I’d like to introduce you to a man who must have escaped the lunatic asylum (No, not the same one I was in!) His name is The Reverend Beat-man Zeller. He is a Swiss musician, DJ and record company owner. He performs as a one-man band, as the leader of psychobilly band, The Monsters, and with other bands, in a style described as primitive rock and roll and as “gospel blues trash.”

I figure this guy must be dangerous, but if you just keep your hands away from his mouth, you’ll be fine.

Next is a band that, well, hell I don’t know, I think they are from Portugal or something. It says they are from Lisbon on their FB page… (See? There’s a Lisbon in Portugal and another one in Ohio, USA – look for the freeway exit!) The Dirty Coal Train are a Garage, Post Punk, Blues band that features old testament bass, exorcised guitar, devil drums and preaching. At #1 this week are the Subways. The Subways are an English rock band from Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire who have been around for ten years now, since 2005. This is their latest single that just came out.

Finally, today’s freebie is a japanese band that’s been around for a long time and they are called, the Mackshow. My artist and designer extraordinaire friend, Takebo (Akinori Takeda), loves them! I saw the Mackshow at the “Rock N Roll Summit” in Shibuya last week and they were fucking great!

Hey! Damn! WTF? There’s a worldwide Garage Rock boom going on (or so it seems to me!) It’s rockin’ and Japan is in the middle! Cool!

Before we get into the hits (or misses, as have you…) I have to say thanks to my wife Yuka, who puts up with my shit everyday! She’s the best! I’m drunk every night and she doesn’t complain! (OK. OK. I didn’t drink the last two days but that’s only because I haven’t felt well.) But I’m drinkin’ tonight! Drinkin Wine Spo-dee-o-dee, drinkin’ wine! (I don’t drink wine. But who’s counting?)

First up today is a band from Norland! (Norway, Finland? Whatever!)

At #2 is a band that my friend in Paris, Yukiko Shimoda, really digs and she actually had her photo taken with them and her handsome husband, a few weeks ago when they played Paris! (How is that possible???!!!) They are on Tim Armstrong’s (Rancid) label, Hellcat! (Thanks a gazillion to Kitano Mayumi!!!!! I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!! LIFE IS SHORT LET’S HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!)

At #1 is a band that was introduced to me by Kona Cindy, Cindy Kona (Whatever…Can’t keep it straight). Kona Cindy has introduced me to like, 7 of the last 4 #1 hits on the Japan chart! How does she do it???? This girl has her shit together! If you wanna be played in America and Japan, then Kona Cindy is THEE conduit for that!!!! Anyway, thanks Kona Cindy!!! Kona Cindy introduced me to this fricking great band! From Los Angeles, it’s The Dollyrots. This record has been played constantly on my radio show for the last few weeks. And, why not? This fucking rocks!

And speaking of Los Angeles, Rodney of the Roq, THEE Rodney Bingenheimer, who I used to be a Go-Fer for in 1980 and 1981 (Rodney introduced me to the Clash, Ramones, Blondie, Phil Spector, Guns and Roses, and a bunch of other people that I can’t remember!). Rodney played this band on his radio show on last Sunday night! Japan’s own, The Routes! These guys have been getting tons of airplay in Europe and on my measly radio show too. The Routes are fricking HOT!

We’re back for this week’s Top 3 Videos! Our favorite new Indies artist’s videos for the week of Sept 18, 2015!

First up today at #3 is Fidlar. FIDLAR is a skate punk/garage punk band from Los Angeles, California. The band’s name is an acronym for ‘Fuck It Dog, Life’s A Risk.’ This is their latest single and it’s hot!

Next up is a new band called, The Jungle Giants. The Jungle Giants are an Australian four-piece band. Rolling Stone magazine gave their newest album, Speakerzoid, 4 out of 5 stars.

Once again time for the Top 3 Videos… The Top 3 Indies artists videos sent straight to you from Tokyo, Japan! We have some hot rock n roll for you today!

First up today is a band heartily recommended by my friend Bee Bee Clarke. Bee Bee has his ear to the wall in the Tokyo music scene and knows his stuff. He writes, “Texaco Leatherman … take what’s expected and fuck it silly before the audience.” Yeah. These guys are scary, like the Cramps!

“What is a Kyushu?” is an entirely acceptable response.

Kyushu is Japan’s southernmost large island. Its largest city is Fukuoka. There seems to be something going on down there as we have been playing a lot of bands from that area. Namely, last week we had Titty Twister, and this week we have a band that I think is fucking awesome, The Routes! The Routes are down in Kyushu but they’ve been getting lots of airplay and attention in Europe and on my Sunday show. If you liked the Pebbles or Nuggets album series, you are gonna dig this!

Business Advertising Videos on Internet? 30 Seconds Maximum!

We’ve written extensively about why your videos for Youtube or the Internet should be short, but more information is in that seals the decision: If you are making an advertising videos for your business, restaurant, service, club, whatever, and you want the maximum number of people to see it, then make your video length a 30 seconds maximum!

In March of 2015, we wrote in a previous article (Business and Social Media Videos? Keep it 30 Seconds! 60 Seconds at Most!:

“According to research data by Visible Measures, the internet video audience measurement service: “20% of all your viewers will click away from a video in 10 seconds or fewer.”

That means, we must get the message out about what you or your business is about within the first 5 ~ 10 seconds. Think about it; how many times have you seen a video and then clicked away immediately? If people are going to click away, we might not be able to stop them (depends on their reason for clicking away), but we can at least let them know who/what you or your business is about.

The same data from Visible Measures shows that: “… by 30 seconds, you will lose about 1/3 of your viewers! 45% of all viewers will be gone by 1 minute…” Then it drops off a cliff. “You will lose 60% of your viewers by 2 minutes.”

But even this information is incomplete today. Twitter’s new video platform will not support any videos over 30 seconds! So, whether you agree with that or not, I guess that settles the debate; especially if you want people to re-tweet your video and for the video to go viral!

Case rests, your honor!

So if you want an effective video that will be seen by the widest audience of people on many Social Media Platforms and Youtube, then make it under 30 seconds.

Time once again for the Top 3 Indies Artists for the week of August 28, 2015!

First up is an all-female Metal/Glam band from Los Angeles. Metaladies publication wrote: “In 2013, Glam Skanks hit the Los Angeles music scene with a new take on rock & roll. There’s glitter, there’s hooks with the sparkle of Bowie and the glimmer of Aerosmith.”

Time once again for the Top 3 Indies artist’s videos for the week of August 21, 2015!

First up is a video that I tried a couple of years ago to get on another countdown that I worked on. But no! The hardcore fundamentalists who ran that TV station wouldn’t allow it! Those folks idea of hard core porn is a Victoria’s Secret catalogue! So, a couple of years late is still better than never, here’s Hanni El Khatib! Hanni El Khatib is a first-generation American, is the son of a Palestinian father and a Filipino mother. He worked as a creative director for a skateboard fashion label and for an advertising agency before starting musical career blending blues, folk and garage rock into songs designed (in his words) “for anyone who has ever been shot or hit by a train.” This is awesome!

At #2 is Louise Distras who is really making waves. The UK newspaper, The Guardian says,  “Bold, brainy and ballsy, Louise Distras represents nothing less than the rebirth of British punk; reinvented for a new generation”.

At this week’s #1 is Veruca Salt. They are an American alternative rock band founded in Chicago, Illinois, United States, in 1993. They broke on March 14, 2012 up but reunited on March 15, 2015 almost exactly three years later to the day.

Next up is a band from Japan that I think you are going to like, the are a 4-piece rock band name the Plashments. The Plashments formed in Tokyo in 2008. They create a British rock sound with a taste of the New York punk. I hear that one of these guys was a fan of my radio show a long time ago so they must not be idiots and they have some good taste and some fucking common sense! Ha! Ha! Ha!
