Next up is an all-female punk trio from Northampton, Mass. They just released their EP on August 21 and have been getting LOTS of airplay on my radio show (“WTF?” Please come ‘Like’ our FB page!)
This week’s #1 come’s from Cindy Kona who introduces us to this hot act named Palaye Royale. Palaye Royale is an unsigned fashion-art rock band from Las Vegas, Nevada. (Unsigned??? You kidding me?)
Finally, today’s freebie is, once again, Japan’s own, The Plashments!
FREEBIE! The Plashments “R.J.E Blues” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ogg30DN5lVw

We’ve written extensively about why your videos for Youtube or the Internet should be short, but more information is in that seals the decision: If you are making an advertising videos for your business, restaurant, service, club, whatever, and you want the maximum number of people to see it, then make your video length a 30 seconds maximum!
“According to research data by Visible Measures, the internet video audience measurement service: “20% of all your viewers will click away from a video in 10 seconds or fewer.”
That means, we must get the message out about what you or your business is about within the first 5 ~ 10 seconds. Think about it; how many times have you seen a video and then clicked away immediately? If people are going to click away, we might not be able to stop them (depends on their reason for clicking away), but we can at least let them know who/what you or your business is about.
The same data from Visible Measures shows that: “… by 30 seconds, you will lose about 1/3 of your viewers! 45% of all viewers will be gone by 1 minute…” Then it drops off a cliff. “You will lose 60% of your viewers by 2 minutes.”
But even this information is incomplete today. Twitter’s new video platform will not support any videos over 30 seconds! So, whether you agree with that or not, I guess that settles the debate; especially if you want people to re-tweet your video and for the video to go viral!
Case rests, your honor!
So if you want an effective video that will be seen by the widest audience of people on many Social Media Platforms and Youtube, then make it under 30 seconds.

You CAN get a great meal in Tokyo, for under $5 USD! Really!
Where to find that information? Right here! Well, the Gaijin Gourmet (that’s me) has been blogging Gaijin Gourmet articles showing you where to go to get the best deals in Japan here at the Robot55.jp site.
Besides articles on where to find these places, at Robot55, we’ll be starting an entire video series introducing these places where you can get a great, healthy, safe and delicious meal for under $5 USD! These videos will be in English for folks coming to Japan and looking for the best places to eat well on a budget.
I have already written about the best budget sushi chain in Japan (see below); the best noodles shops; and the best places to get salads! Here’s a recent post in the series:
The restaurant is Sukiya. Sukiya has almost 2000 shops in Japan so they are everywhere you are. And most Sukiya shops are open 24 hours a day. The only shop that has more restaurants is McBurgers, but I don’t have to introduce them to you. A few reasons: 1) McBurgers is not healthy. You don’t want your kids, or yourself, to be eating that stuff. 2) Sukiya has an extremely healthy menu with lots of very reasonably priced and delicious items. 3) The kids love Sukiya!
Sukiya is a “Beef Bowl” chain. That means they specialize in serving some cooked meats on a bed of rice. It’s delicious and the price will drop your jaw. Since I am watching my weight, whenever I go to Sukiya, I always order the salad (there’s no salt or dressing on it, you add those yourself if you wish) and the “Healthy Gyudon” (that is called, “Gyudon Light” on the menu.) It is “light” because the calories are so low because this delicious menu item has a block of Tofu instead of the rice.
Sukiya is the ultimate answer to travelers on a budget who want to eat healthy and food that is not full of salt and oil. I give Sukiya 5+ stars. Seriously, I think you can’t beat them for taste, quality, cleanliness and price. A high quality, healthy and (Japanese style) low calorie meal can be had for as little as ¥380.
I usually order Gyudon Light (¥380 yen) and a salad (¥100) and drink the tea (free). I’m happy, I’ve eaten healthy and the damages? ¥480. Are you sitting down? That’s about $4 USD and THERE IS NO TIPPING!”
Folks, this morning set at Sukiya with a baked salmon, rice, pickled veggies and miso soup is under $4 (USD!) Incredible!
I’ll be writing a bunch more of these in the coming months (the plan is to write at least one a week, so I hope you’ll go to check it out on Robot55.jp.

Time once again for the Top 3 Indies Artists for the week of August 28, 2015!
First up is an all-female Metal/Glam band from Los Angeles. Metaladies publication wrote: “In 2013, Glam Skanks hit the Los Angeles music scene with a new take on rock & roll. There’s glitter, there’s hooks with the sparkle of Bowie and the glimmer of Aerosmith.”
At #2 is everybody’s favorite band from St. Petersburg, Russia, Messer Chups. These guys take Surf Rock to a totally out of this world angle! Awesomely cool! They should be on the air constantly.
At #1 this week is a Japanese act from Kyoto, Japan. Wikipedia says: “Lillies and Remains is a Japanese New Wave/Post-Punk/New Wave rock/Alternative rock band.” They are a trio and if you liked Depeche Mode, you’ll love this.
#1) Lillies and Remains – BODY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIda_odnbqA
This week’s Bonus Track comes from our girl in Hawaii, Cindy Kona! Cindy has an ear to the vibe and sends us this cool track from the guitarist for Alice Cooper, Tommy Henriksen! Check it out!

Wow! Today is another true story! I’m going to brag about the rock stars I hobnob with! (Snore!)
Everyone has seen the animation “Teen Titans,” right? The theme song for that animation was sang by Japan’s Puffy Amiyumi, and, on that song, the mighty Guitar Wolf’s lead vocal and guitarist, Seiji, played guitar solo.
My now 11-year-old son really liked Teen Titans (we don’t have a TV so we sometimes let him watch DVDs – a few times). So he really liked that theme song. The animation? He didn’t like that so much.
But, yesterday I came home from a TV show recording and then I showed him the photo of Seiji and me (at the top of this post) and asked him if he remembered that “guy who played guitar in the Teen Titans theme song”?
His eyes grew wide and he said, “Yeah! Dad! I remember!”
“That’s him!” I said. My son was mightily impressed!
Then we both watched the theme song video on Youtube once again together!
OK. That’s the Teen Titans…. I’ve also known (not well because they are big stars) Puffy for a long time too… Kind of…
Well, anyway, one half of Puffy Amiyumi, Yumi, was on a TV show on WOWOW TV a little while back that I worked on. I didn’t do anything, I just worked on the show. When I saw her, I said, “Hi Yumi! Do you remember me?” Of course she said, “Yes!” but I could tell by the look in her eyes, she didn’t.
That’s OK, she probably thought my face was familiar but all foreigners look alike! (Bwa! Ha! Ha!)
Puffy were also the main hosts of a TV show that George Williams was on (I’m George’s manager) and that must have been 15~20 years ago too.
A few months ago, at Wowow, I took my photo with Yumi… But I can’t find it now (of course). And, of course, I can’t find any of the really old photos…. But I will post them here if and when I do.
Anyway, Puffy Amiyumi are cool and this video for “Teen Titans” was seen around the world!… Also, did you notice something “funny” right after Seiji’s “guital” solo?
Seiji of Guitar Wolf stars in the guitar solo for the theme song of Teen Titans… They spelled it “Guitalist”????
Yeah. That’s right. They misspelled “Guitarist.”
OK. Very funny guys. You know they intentionally misspelled it (?)… Pretty humorous if you ask me.
Anyway, onto Guitar Wolf. I’ve known Seiji from Guitar Wolf for a very long time too, over 20 years. Seiji has been a guest on many TV and radio shows I’ve worked on or produced for a very long time. Seiji appears on my shows because we are some of the few programs radical enough to play them. The photo at the very top of this article is Seiji and me from yesterday. He was a guest on a TV program that I produce.
Yesterday was the first time I have seen Seiji in nearly 10 years! When I saw him, I said, “Hi Seiji! Do you remember me?” Of course he said, “Yes!” but I could tell by the look in his eyes, he didn’t. That’s OK, Seiji is just like me and we both drink too much. I can’t remember what happened this morning!
Seiji probably thought my face was familiar but all foreigners look alike! (Bwa! Ha! Ha!)
Seiji is cool. I do have an old photo of me and Seiji and Guitar Wolf from a very long time ago. This might have been around 1991 or so. That’s me on the far left in the blue Hawaiian shirt.
Guitar Wolf visits “Channel G” (circa 1991)
When Guitar Wolf came to the radio station in the photo above, we really got drunk! It was a great time!
And we, er, uh…. We uh…. uh….
Let me see… What was I talking about? Getting drunk? Guitar Wolf? Ummm…. I forgot….
Oh yeah, now I remember! Seiji also is the guest vocalist on the Mutants new single, “Dead Beat Generation”! We’ve been playing it on the radio and it was on the Top 3 Video Countdown at the end of July! Check it out!

Time once again for the Top 3 Indies artist’s videos for the week of August 21, 2015!
First up is a video that I tried a couple of years ago to get on another countdown that I worked on. But no! The hardcore fundamentalists who ran that TV station wouldn’t allow it! Those folks idea of hard core porn is a Victoria’s Secret catalogue! So, a couple of years late is still better than never, here’s Hanni El Khatib! Hanni El Khatib is a first-generation American, is the son of a Palestinian father and a Filipino mother. He worked as a creative director for a skateboard fashion label and for an advertising agency before starting musical career blending blues, folk and garage rock into songs designed (in his words) “for anyone who has ever been shot or hit by a train.” This is awesome!

At #2 is Louise Distras who is really making waves. The UK newspaper, The Guardian says, “Bold, brainy and ballsy, Louise Distras represents nothing less than the rebirth of British punk; reinvented for a new generation”.
At this week’s #1 is Veruca Salt. They are an American alternative rock band founded in Chicago, Illinois, United States, in 1993. They broke on March 14, 2012 up but reunited on March 15, 2015 almost exactly three years later to the day.
Next up is a band from Japan that I think you are going to like, the are a 4-piece rock band name the Plashments. The Plashments formed in Tokyo in 2008. They create a British rock sound with a taste of the New York punk. I hear that one of these guys was a fan of my radio show a long time ago so they must not be idiots and they have some good taste and some fucking common sense! Ha! Ha! Ha!
I think you’ll like this! Check it out! The Plashments are hot!

Now, let’s get to this week’s Top 3 Indies artist’s videos! And you are gonna dig this shit! For some weird reason, the first three artist’s songs or band names have to do with UFO’s, monsters and zombies. I don’t know how that happened, it just did. Maybe we areheading for the Zombie Apocalypse?
First up? Messer Chups. Messer Chups is an experimental band from St. Petersburg, Russia. Messer Chups’ music often features a foundation of surf drums on which they build collages of samples from odd sources, like jazz, east European animation soundtracks, and American B-pictures. On top of that they lay guitar solos and theremin. Check it out. This is hot!
Next up is a Psychobilly band named, “Sir Psyko and his Monsters.” They claim to be Austria’s finest Psychobilly band and they formed in 2006. I guess they have a pretty healthy following in Japan too!
At this week’s #1 is a band that was sent to me by Kona Cindy! In fact, that’s two #1 hits on our countdown for two weeks in a row that were sent by Kona Cindy! (Last week was Bonsai Kitten!) The Love Zombies are a five piece band from London fronted by American singer Hollis J. There site says, “…(the) band mixes punk rock energy and catchy melodies with influences from The Ramones and Blondie to Paramore and No Doubt.”
And this week’s Bonus Track is by Japan’s own the Privates. The Privates have been big in Japan’s rock scene for over 30 years and they are still going strong. The simplest description that I can give westerners is by describing them as the “Japanese Buzzcocks.” Anyway, I went to a private house party on Wednesday night (it was a great party! Thanks Jyoti and Anil!) and had the pleasure of watch the Private’s lead vocalist, Tatsuji Nobuhara perform a few songs on an acoustic guitar. It was fab! This is one of the songs he played for us… By the way, Tatsuji Nobuhara is one of the main actors in a “Japanese Rock ‘n’ Roll Ghost Story” movie. You can see him in the trailer above or by clicking here (trailer at top of page): https://www.makuake.com/en/project/rock

Time once again for this week’s Top 3 videos! The Top 3 Indies Artists videos from around the world.
Kicking us off is the newest by Surfer Blood. Surfer Blood is a 4-piece American alternative rock band from West Palm Beach, Florida. They used to be on Warner Brothers Records, but they got cool and jumped to an indie label named Kanine Records.
Next up is a trio of girls from Tokyo called “The Let’s Go’s!” They even have an English webpage! They were the backup band for Nikki Corvette’s 2014 Japan Tour, so is that cool or what?
This week’s #1 is a 4 piece group from Germany fronted by a hot lead singer Tiger Lilly Marleen. The band is called Bonsai Kitten and their music is called, “Killbilly.”
And for this week’s freebie. The newest from a regular artist on my radio show and no stranger to the countdown either; The Jigsaw Seen. From their online bio: “The Los Angeles Reader pronounced: “The Jigsaw Seen’s witty commentaries capture both general life and more personal emotions with equal depth of feeling, and the music always shines.” The band toured in support of the record, playing shows with Smashing Pumpkins, Afghan Whigs, the Cynics and the Sneetches, among others.”

Me: It is so hot in Tokyo that my wife is outside baking cookies in our car.
Audience: Hysterical laughter and applause.
It’s too hot to do anything except stay inside and listen to music. With that, let’s get to some exciting new artists and tunes!
Starting us off is a Japanese Punk trio from Yokohama, Japan. At least that’s what it claims on their Facebook page and, as we all know, Facebook pages are the gospel truth. They’ve been playing now for over 20 years! Here’s their debut song to the countdown, that shows that persistence pays! Japan’s own, the Havenot’s!
Finally today’s bonus track. And it’s the Mutants! Wait! What’s this? The song is called, “Dead Beat Generation” and it features Seiji from Japan’s own Guitar Wolf on vocals? Check it!
I think regular readers might know that I am making Japan’s first ever Rock n Roll ghost horror movie. It features some of Japan’s best bands. The story is about a rock musician who is slowly going insane and he meets a ghost who promises to help him become immortal by writing the perfect song. Here is our trailer and Crowdfunding page. Please take a look if you have time.
