Watch These 3 Short Movies Without Crying? Can’t Be Done!〜【注意】涙腺崩壊映像【感動】

英語分からな?問題ない!ビデオをクリック!

Thanks to everyone for the kind messages about yesterday’s post about hiring the handicapped to become a part of our team. (If link doesn’t work, copy and paste this into your browser: http://robot55.jp/blog/looking-to-hire-the-handicapped-for-video-editing-at-home/).  We will keep on trying and keep on going forward. With your support, I know we can do this.

Thanks so much.

In the spirit of opening our hearts and trying to make this a better place to live, as well as a “thank you!” present for all our well-wishers, today I’d like to show you three very touching videos from Thailand. Is this an attempt at pulling at dear reader’s soft heart strings? Why, yes it is. It is also because I am a big softy and these things make me cry too. (Heck, I cried in the Disney cartoon Dumbo!) Today’s short videos are very well done and make my water works flow also! I think you’ll like them a lot! I do.

Why does Thailand have so many heart ripping videos today? Maybe it’s because Thailand was such a desperately poor country (still is in many ways) for so many centuries. Things have gotten better, but westerners cannot imagine the poverty in nations like Thailand (or India) that still exist today… Maybe these heart-wrenching videos come about due to Thailand’s Buddhist history. I am not sure.

The first video is about a blind boy who saves a baby bird. This movie speaks for itself. Watch this and see if this doesn’t jerk your heartsrings….

I love how they got a real actor with a sight disorder to play the part. Genius. Well done!

The next video is a video that is perfect for Japan and addresses the social problem of bullying. This one, too, needs little explanation…. The note the little boy receives at the start of the video says, “Loser!”

The note the little boy receives at the end of the video says, “Teach me!” Watch it!

Brilliant!

Finally, this is the best of the bunch. Actually, I find this video production to be quite excellent and I am happy to see how this was adapted… No! Is this an ancient story? Or is this a modern story? I am leaning to believing that this is an ancient Buddhist story.

Here is an English adaptation that I found:

“One day, a poor boy who was selling goods from door to door to pay his way through school, found he had only one thin dime left, and he was hungry. He decided he would ask for a meal at the next house. However, he lost his nerve when a lovely young woman opened the door.

Instead of a meal he asked for a drink of water. She thought he looked hungry so brought him a large glass of milk. He drank it slowly, and then asked, “How much do I owe you?”

“You don’t owe me anything,” she replied. “Mother has taught us never to accept pay for a kindness.”

He said, “Then I thank you from my heart.”

As Howard Kelly left that house, he not only felt stronger physically, but his faith in God and man was strong also. He had been ready to give up and quit.

Year’s later that young woman became critically ill. The local doctors were baffled. They finally sent her to the big city, where they called in specialists to study her rare disease. Dr. Howard Kelly was called in for the consultation.

When he heard the name of the town she came from, a strange light filled his eyes. Immediately he rose and went down the hall of the hospital to her room. Dressed in his doctor’s gown he went in to see her. He recognized her at once.

He went back to the consultation room determined to do his best to save her life. From that day he gave special attention to the case. After a long struggle, the battle was won.

Dr. Kelly requested the business office to pass the final bill to him for approval. He looked at it, then wrote something on the edge and the bill was sent to her room. She feared to open it, for she was sure it would take the rest of her life to pay for it all. Finally she looked, and something caught her attention on the side of the bill. She began to read the following words: “Paid in full with one glass of milk. Signed, Dr. Howard Kelly.”

So I am sure, now, this is an ancient story. Now that you know the story, you don’t need to know the language. The video adaptation is superb:

It’s a wonderful day.  Thank you for sharing your time with us today.

Please give your loved ones a hug. Cherish all that you have. Kindness to others will be repaid to you in good karma…

As the final video says, “Giving is the best communication.”

Looking to Hire the Handicapped for Video Editing at Home

Because of the internet, many people no longer have to leave home or take public transportation to and from work; they can perform their job duties from home.  This time should be a watershed time for the disabled and handicapped to work and contribute to society. As the father of a girl who is permanently confined to a wheelchair, it has been a sort of mission of mine over all these years to do so. As a small company, we want to help them to do so.

We are in the process of hiring physically impaired folks for our company. At first, just a few folks, they earn decent money editing video. At this very moment, we are looking for someone disabled but has experience editing video using Final Cut. They need to have experience with Final Cut software and be able to observe video footage and listen to music and make edits. Native Japanese ability a must. Experience in video and art and design a plus.

We prefer folks who live in Tokyo or Yokohama, Chiba area. For now, we are merely looking for one experienced person; yes, the hurdle is high. But soon we will be hiring people who have little or no experience and we aim to train them and give them a profitable skill. I will announce that job opening soon. (A Japanese language version of this article will be posted tomorrow).

What is the job precisely? Simply video editing. Look at the photo below. It is a photo of the top of this page. On the left, in the red circles, are two videos. One is 30 seconds, the other is 60 seconds. It is very high quality professional job at a super low price. You can scroll up to the top of this page to click and watch these videos.
Robot55 does professional world-class video productions at a fraction the cost of the competition and we aim to make society a better place with your help.

Robot55 does professional world-class video productions at a fraction the cost of the competition and we aim to make society a better place with your help.

Here is a new video we made yesterday:  (If link doesn’t play, copy and paste this into your browser: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PbhtRDMcBTY)

We are now looking to hire a physically impaired person who can perform a part time job doing video editing on Final Cut at home. As with all video editing jobs, this job has no set work hour schedule. The editor can do the work at their convenience.  It takes about 3 – 5 hours to edit one video. Then, for the starting pay, they will be paid ¥6,000 ~ ¥9,000 per video. They can get pay raises once they become proficient with our system. The pay is much better than working at a fast food restaurant or convenience store. You never have to use time riding a train back and forth; you never have to leave home. Finish the job and upload it back to us. Simple.

We need to hire someone who has experience with Final Cut video editing soon (part time). I think the work will only be 1 video a week at the start… And then, if business goes well, we can increase. We are very flexible for our part time worker’s schedule too.

The good candidate will need an newer model Apple PC and Wi-Fi at home.

If you are interested or know someone who might be, have them contact us. Let’s work together having fun making videos and making the world a better place to live.

NOTE: The Politically Correct crowd really confuse me sometimes. So much so, that in an article like this, I am afraid to use certain terminology. Is it OK to say, “Disabled,” or “Handicapped?” I’m not sure. I do not mean to offend anyone and just want to get to the point as quickly as possible. Politically correctness has gotten out of control. I don’t know what to call my own daughter! Some call her disabled, some call her handicapped, some call her wheelchair bound…. I call her “perfect!”

MORE NOTES:
Truth be told, everyone has a disability of some sort…

Top 3 New Artist Videos (03/25/15) 〜ミュージックビデオも制作

Hey! We’re back for this week’s Top 3 Countdown. Welcome!

First off, a hat tip to my friend in Osaka, Kevin Riley. Kevin was complaining about some of the songs a few weeks ago, saying they were, “Too mellow.” He wanted to, “Rock!” he says.

Damned hippies!

OK. So, this week due to popular demand (from Kevin) we’re going to rock with some more video productions from brand new artists that I think are way cool!

First up today is a band from France. It seems to be a guy and a girl. Their band name is The Limiñanas. That’s all I know about them and all I can find out about them from English language press. Kevin Riley speaks French, maybe he could do some research for us! Seriously, I can’t find really information about this band, really.

Anyway, I did find one thing… This is from a review in the Guardian:

“French pop in its purest form hasn’t really got its groove back since the 60s, but, wisely, it’s this very era that this Perpignan duo mine, marrying fuzzed-out psychedelia and agreeably rambling rock with the pop sweetness of that decade’s chansons. The ghost of Gainsbourg is felt most keenly in Votre côté yéyé m’emmerde, a softly spoken-word litany of icons and celebrities. Not hero worship, though, but an eye roll at the cute-ification of the past; its title translates to something like “your yé-yé view annoys me”, or, more literally, “enshittens me”. It is, in other words, a perfectly Gallic “bof” of a pop song.

Uh? What did he just say? Yeah. See? I can’t find out anything about this band. So check the video and you’ll know about as much as I do!

#3) The Limiñanas – Je Suis Une Go-Go Girl (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jk9EdnErhMk)

Next up is a two girl group from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma that formed in 2009. And their name is Sonic Youth. Er, no! That’s not their name. But if you like Sonic Youth, you are going to dig this! The band consists of Kelli Mayo and Peyton Bighorse, who both can play several instruments. They make songs alternating instruments, in a childlike yet heavy and mature style with very and poetic lyrics and melodic arrangements. Is the rudimentary musicianship part of the act? I can’t tell because some of it really rocks! They play a bunch of different styles from riot grrrl to, get this:  piano-based indie punk/pop.

#2) Skating Polly – Alabama Movies (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDA-lzxcFyQ)

OK. Here we are at #1. Now this is HOT! I love this! This trio is from Texas and they are called “Purple!” (OK, Kevin Riley, you will dig this BIG TIME TOO!) In thes video they are playing at a party and I cen definitely imagine rocking out to this band! MY GOD! They have a hot blonde drummer and she is the singer too! When was the last time you saw that happen? Never, right? Her name is Hannah Brewer and she also writes the lyrics. And she growls when she sings! Hot! Hot! Hot! Click this video and watch right now! You can thank me later!

#1) Purple “Wallflower”  (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfx7kSYZvNo)

Well that’s all the videos for this week.

If you want to be in a music video, and you are in Tokyo, we are shooting a video for a hot new girl’s band on Friday, April 3 in Shimokitazawa. Here’s information on that: Want to Be in a Star in a Rock Video? You Can! The New Su凸ko D凹koi Video! The First Films in Cinema History

The other day, I posted the third in a series of blogs about stop-motion animation and, as with all in the series, the reaction was great. Thanks. A good friend of mine asked if I had any information on the earliest films and, as a matter of fact, I do.

First up today is a short video of the earliest surviving film and sound recordings. They are all from 1888. These aren’t all that interesting as entertainment, but I find them more than fascinating to see a glimpse of life from more than 125 years ago. I especially like the traffic scene. The films are preserved on video and the back track is the earliest surviving recorded music.

There are two main pieces of footage thanks to video and video production for allowing these works to survive. Here are the dates and places of these antiques:

Earliest surviving recorded music: Handel Israel in Egypt
(Crystal Palace London, 29, June 1888)

Earliest surviving film: Roundhay Garden Scene
(Leeds, England, 14 October 1888)

Traffic Crossing Leeds Bridge
(Leeds, England, late October 1888)

Let’s check out the first and, as of now, oldest remaining film in human history. To give you and idea about the time frame we are talking about here, in 1888, the year of the earliest surviving recording of music and earliest recorded film; German Emperor William I died that year; Famous American author of the classic, Little Women, Louisa May Alcott died of a stroke at age 55.  Mary Ann Nichols was the first victim of the dreaded Jack the Ripper soon followed by Catherine Eddowes and Elizabeth Stride. They were the first three of at least five murders by unidentified serial killer, or killers, Jack the Ripper.

Thanks to Edwardian Piano for the details:

Also on this video is the earliest surviving recording of music known today which is a performance of Handel’s oratorio Israel in Egypt conducted by Sir August Manns recorded by an Edison engineer named George E. Gouraud at Crystal Palace, London, England, 29th June 1888. Also we have the earliest surviving recorded film. This was shot by Louis Aimé Augustin Le Prince in Leeds, England in October 1888. Also, there is the Roundhay Garden Scene that was filmed 14 October 1888 and the Traffic Crossing at Leeds Bridge that was filmed in late October 1888. The Roundhay Garden Scene was filmed in the garden of the Whitley family home in Oakwood Grange Road, Roundhay, Leeds, England… “Starring,” from the left at beginning of scene: Adolphe Le Prince (the film maker’s son), Miss Harriet Hartley, Mrs. Sarah Whitley, (the film maker’s mother-in-law), and Joseph Whitley (the film maker’s business partner). The original film was shot at 12 frames per second for a 2 second duration. The Traffic Crossing Leeds Bridge was filmed at 20 frames per second in Leeds, England in late October 1888.

Earliest surviving film and sound recording 1888. (If that video doesn’t play, copy and paste this link into your browser: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myQpkIlv_lw)

Next up we have two brothers who are considered by historians the first film makers in history: The Lumière brothers. They patented what was called the “cinematograph.” Some people consider Edison’s Kinetoscope “Peepshow” to be one of the first “motion pictures” in history, but the Kinetoscope could only allow one person at a time to view the “movie.” The “cinematograph” allowed several people to watch simultaneously. Their first film entitled, “Sortie de l’usine Lumière de Lyon,” was shot in 1894 and is considered to be the first true motion picture.

Here is a short 6 minute film showing some of their earliest shoots. Keep watching it, there’s all sorts of scenes. There’s several scenes of people leaving some sort of gathering, a group of men (notice that ALL the men wear straw hats – they say that back in those days, if you didn’t wear a hat, you weren’t dressed to go outside!) Then there’s a family with a baby; a group of gentlemen playing cards and much more. There really isn’t any story, but I enjoy seeing the way they dressed and lived. I also enjoy imagining the lives they lead. I wonder if their lives were so different from the lives we lead today?

The Lumiere Brothers’ – First films (1895) (If that video doesn’t play, copy and paste this link into your browser: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nj0vEO4Q6s).

I really do enjoy seeing these people from so many years ago.Like I wrote, I like to imagine who they were and where they were going. Were they happy? Are they so different from us? I suspect not.

I hope you enjoyed today’s time travel to the past. If you are interested in this sort of thing or would like for me to research more obscure films, videos, productions from days gone by, give me an email. I’m happy to find this sort of thing for your (and for my) enjoyment.

Until next week, see you and have a great weekend!

More Exciting (and Bizarre) Animations! Part 3〜おもしろい動画をご紹介

Hey welcome back for some more great animations.I hope you folks enjoy this series of animations. As for me, I find that watching these things inspires me and gives me ideas for when I make my own video productions for Robot55. It is amazing that, in many cases, so many wonderful videos remain of productions that were made on shoe string budgets.

I love that sort of thinking. It is the ultimate in creativity. I hope that some of these videos give you ideas for your creative productions whether those are video productions, art, writing a book, or even making a cake! Whatever we do, let’s have fun!

The first animation up today is one of the earliest animators. His name is Willis O’Brien. Most of you might recognize his work as he was the guy who made the giant gorilla in the classic 1933 film, “King Kong.” I remember watching that film in cinema class at university and just being simply amazed that they could have this animation so many years ago…. (I was studying animation too at  the time!)

Willis Harold O’Brien was born in Oakland, California in 1886. He is a pioneer in motion picture special effects and stop-motion animations. He is well known and his reputation was (and still is) that he, “was responsible for some of the best-known images in cinema history.” O’Brien is best remembered for his work on The Lost World (1925), King Kong (1933) and Mighty Joe Young (1949). He won the 1950 Academy Award for Best Visual Effects. He wrote the story for King Kong vs. Frankenstein which was changed and was developed into Ishirō Honda’s King Kong vs. Godzilla (1962).

Here is Willis H. O’Brien from 1915 – “The dinosaur and the missing link”

(If link about doesn’t play, copy and past this link into your browser: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RClif87GM1A)

Next up is some stop animation work that, when I was a kid, I didn’t like at all. For some reason, these images disturb me. I can’t put my finger on it… But I guess they made me fear that my toys were alive while I was sleeping. You might recognize some of these images and this style too. This is work by George Pal.

George Pal was born in 1908 in Hungary and moved to the USA in 1940. He was an animator and film producer, mostly doing science fiction (maybe that’s where the scary part came in for me as a kid). He was nominated for Academy Awards in the category Best Short Cartoons for seven years in a row between 1942 – 1948! Wow! Pal is the the second most nominated Hungarian exile after Miklós Rózsa.

George Pal has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 1722 Vine St.

Rocky Horror Picture Show fans will be interested in the trivia that, in the opening theme to that show, of both the stage musical, “Science Fiction/Double Feature,” George Pal is among the many references to classic science fiction and horror films in the opening theme.

Here’s George Pal with “Philips Broadcast” from 1938:

(If link about doesn’t play, copy and past this link into your browser: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQmiqymo7Og).

OK. I said the last animation scared me as a kid. Next up is a very bizarre and twisted animation that is sure to cause the kids have nightmares. I cannot find any information about this Japanese animator nor this animation. But I think it speaks for itself.
