Top 3 Indies Videos 4/21/18! Lucy & the Rats, The Neatbeats (Jpn), Twinkles, Prefab Messiahs!

It’s time once again for the Top 3 Indies Artist Video Countdown for April 21, 2018! Starting off the countdown today are four “Punk Rock Rodents” named “Lucy and the Rats.” They were introduced to us by legendary DJ, Alex Kish over at Wassup Rocker Radio. Their bio squeals: “The Rats are Aussie punk rock legend Lucy Spazzy’s new London backing outfit. According to a (sadly now deceased) witness, their sound comes across like a lab experiment gone wrong, the most delicate of hamsters being ravaged by the filthiest sewer rat whilst humming the sweetest of sweet melodies… Science gone, indeed, too far!! ….you know these rodents are here to bite you!! Here Come the Rats!!!”

I started playing this band on my regular radio show (Mike Rogers Show on Sundays 5 ~ 7 in Tokyo on InterFM897 and Nagoya on 79.5. Nationwide on Radiko.jp) and the reaction was great. The listeners loved it. You will too.

At #2 today is a ANOTHER band introduced to us by legendary DJ, Alex Kish over at Wassup Rocker Radio. Thanks, Alex! It’s a Garage Rock outfit named the “Prefab Messiahs.” Their bio states: “Micro-legendary DIY Garage-Pop-Psych provocateurs! Evolutionary genre grinders practicing art-damaged power pop, rock, crunch, jangle and general mind-infiltration.” I think it’s cool.

At #1 are Italy’s favorite punk rock sons, “The Twinkles.” These guys have been rockin for over 20 years and I think they are, by far, the best punk band from Italy today! They say their influences are: “The Boys, Ramones, Undertones, Cock Sparrer, Vibrators, Skids, Chelsea, Rudi, Johnny Thunders and The Heartbreakers, Lurkers, 999, Buzzcocks, Members, Carpettes, Jolt, Generation X, Beatles, Beach Boys, Hollies.”

This song is the latest from their newest effort. These guys are fantastic musicians and they got some killer song writing  by leader Nick Mess!

TODAY’S SPOTLIGHT ARTIST! The World Famous Neatbeats! The Neatbeats were the main band in Ghostroads – A Japanese Rock n Roll Ghost Story and I think they are Japan’s best (and by far most fun) rock band! This their newest single and it rocks. It’s called “Bye Bye Very Good” and it’s off their just released new album, “Operation the Beat.” Is that a cool name and record jacket, or what?

And speaking of the Neatbeats! “Ghostroads – A Japanese Rock and Roll Ghost Story,” enjoyed its World-Premiere at the Raindance Film Festival in London on Sept. 25, 2017, and was released by a major Japanese motion picture company and in theaters all across Japan will celebrate the release of the DVD and Blu-Ray on sale all across Japan on June 13, 2018!

About Mike in Tokyo Rogers: Mike has been a professional music/TV/radio/anime-related program producer in Japan since the eighties. He began in the music business in 1977 as lead vocalist with the legendary Los Angeles Punk Band, “The Rotters” (Sit on My Face Stevie Nix.). As a university student, he was assistant to the legendary Rodney Bingenheimer (Rodney on the ROQ – KROQ Los Angeles from 1980 ~ 1981.) Mike was the first and only foreigner in Japanese history to become the General Manager of a major Japanese broadcasting station (TV Tokyo owned InterFM). It’s time once again for the Top 3 Indies Artist Video Countdown of the Top 3 best Indies and Alternative Music artists for the week of Sept 3, 2017! And, folks, I have some REALLY great stuff for you today. Especially this week’s #1. I promise that you will really love or hate this stuff. DISCLAIMER: To all my CIA or MI5 readers: I just write these countdowns & stuff, OK? I do not make these songs or videos. Oh and, I do not know where these people live either so please do not come looking for me. I know nothing! Nothing!

First up are the Twinkles and their newest hit song! The Twinkles are from Italy! Their bio says: “The Twinkles are a nice melodic ’77 punk band from Castelfranco Veneto, Italy. Behind the lyrics and the music is frontman Nick Mess who keeps the image and the style of ’77 punk still alive. A lot of fans already know their songs after many successful gigs all over Europe. Their songs are inspired by the likes of the Ramones, so there is just no way to NOT love them.”

At #2 is the newest from Stoke-on-Trent in the UK, Peter118! Peter118 is a punk band that brings a positive message. Today track was just released on August 31 and it is available on the ‘In Stereo’ EP split with No Lost Cause.

At this week’s #1 is a fantastic song and video by my former friends, Mr. Diagonal and Ken. Now, normally, if these guys made a video without me, I’d be upset… But not this time…. Today’s number one video is truly an amazing artistic statement and, frankly speaking, takes a lot of guts. I think the Powers That Be usually eliminate people for making stuff like this… So, well, it’s been nice knowing you guys… Before you are “disappeared” I thought I’d honor you by placing this excellent and disturbing video at this week’s #1. It’s Mr. Diagonal and the song is called “Diana.”

Spotlight Artist!  Today’s spotlight are a band that I consider to be Japan’s best Beat Band. They are known as the Neatbeats! I am dead serious when I say that the Neatbeats are the most fun and entertaining concert I have ever seen in my life and I’ve seen a lot of concerts. They are starring in Ghostroads – A Japanese Rock n Roll Ghost Story. They are the Neatbeats!

I love the Neatbeats. With Ghostroads – A Japanese Rock n Roll Ghost Story, the Neatbeats are destined to become one of Japan’s most famous bands of all time. If you get a chance to see these guys, you HAVE to go. Oh! And the hot girl in the video?
