It’s time once again for this week’s Top 3 videos for the week of Nov. 24, 2018!
First up is a class act from Australia who call themselves, King Cornelius & The Silverbacks! This is their first time on our countdown. This is hilarious! Their bio states the origin of this band as: “The Silverbacks (4 well-dressed safari hunters captured King Cornelius in the hope of making him serve them (tea, coffee, watermelon cosmopolitans etc). Discovering that he was an ape of enormous entertainment potential, they made him their leader and formed a musical combo, adding a fourth member in late 2016 to help tame the beast…. They no longer hunt.”

At #2 this week, we take a trip to Spain and Folc Records recording artists, Juanita Banana! (Thanks Antonio!) Juanita Banana’s bio sates that they are a Garage/ Surf / Rock’n’roll band. It also goes on to say, “From the depths of the caverns and created by the unknown Tiki goddesses, Juanita Banana arrives. A band composed of five troglodytes that, based on roars, howls and sounds in the purest sixties style, have managed to form a unique, hooligan and combative concept. Influenced by bands like The Cramps, The Ventures, Vice Barons and, of course, The 5,6,7,8`s, are willing to immerse us in the wildest and most addictive side of garage, surf and rock and roll.”
At #1 is a band from Oklahoma named Skating Polly. Their bio says, “Skating Polly, a sister duo from Oklahoma made up of Kelli Mayo and Peyton Bighorse, formed in 2009 after a jam session at the girls’ Halloween party…Raised on ‘70s punk and early-‘90s alt-rock, they mine inspiration from artists as disparate as Johnny Cash, The Ramones, NWA, Nirvana, and Bikini Kill and saturate their own songs with a raw energy reminiscent of their musical heroes… Along with earning the adoration of Cervenka (whom they befriended after attending one of the X singer’s 2010 solo shows and playing their demos on a cell phone), Skating Polly has found fans in Rosanne Cash and Sean Lennon, taken the stage with punk legends like Mike Watt, and opened up for such indie heavy-hitters as Deerhoof and Band of Horses. Tapping Mayo’s dad as their tour manager, the stepsisters typically hit the road with their entire family and optimize their travel time by making up songs on their ukulele… “The musicians we’re most inspired by are the ones who keep on going and going, who devote their entire lives to coming up with new and different stuff,” says Mayo. “A lot of times at our shows people will come up to us and tell us, ‘Keep on doing what you’re doing, don’t ever stop’ and we’re just like, ‘Yeah—we weren’t planning on ever stopping.”

The DVD and Blu-Ray went on sale all across Japan on June 13, 2018! It also enjoyed its Canadian theatrical release on August 31, 2018!

About Mike in Tokyo Rogers: Mike has been a professional music/TV/radio/anime-related program producer in Japan since the eighties. He began in the music business in 1977 as lead vocalist with the legendary Los Angeles Punk Band, “The Rotters” (Sit on My Face Stevie Nix.). As a university student, he was assistant to the legendary Rodney Bingenheimer (Rodney on the ROQ – KROQ Los Angeles from 1980 ~ 1981.) Mike was the first and only foreigner in Japanese history to become the General Manager of a major Japanese broadcasting station (TV Tokyo owned InterFM). Has produced a few smash hit programs (some real losers, too!) and several of Tokyo’s highest rated and most famous radio programs. A recent hit Internet TV program was “The TV Show” (Set Program with “Ninja Slayer”) which, between April – Oct. 2015, garnered over 10 million viewers. He is currently producing and hosting “The Mike Rogers Show” every Sunday live on InterFM 89.7 in Tokyo and Radio Neo in Nagoya 79.5 and nationally broadcast on Radiko.jp (Internet radio). And he is the creator and founder of the Mt. Fuji – Atami Film & VR Festival. Also his life’s dream is his just completed full-length motion picture, “Ghostroads – A Japanese Rock and Roll Ghost Story,” which enjoyed its World-Premiere at the Raindance Film Festival in London on Sept. 25, 2017, and was released by a major Japanese motion picture company and in theaters all across Japan from Sept. 2017 ~ Mar. 2018.
