It’s time once again for the Top 3 Indies Artist Video Countdown for Aug. 25, 2018!

Starting us off today is a Garage Punk – Rock’n’Roll outfit from Turkey. Yeah, you read that right. I think they are from Istanbul, Turkey. Their name is the Reptilians From Andromeda.

About Mike in Tokyo Rogers: Mike has been a professional music/TV/radio/anime-related program producer in Japan since the eighties. He began in the music business in 1977 as lead vocalist with the legendary Los Angeles Punk Band, “The Rotters” (Sit on My Face Stevie Nix.). As a university student, he was assistant to the legendary Rodney Bingenheimer (Rodney on the ROQ – KROQ Los Angeles from 1980 ~ 1981.) It’s time once again for the Top 3 Indies Artist Video Countdown for Aug. 18, 2018!

Starting us off today is a powerpop, punk and rock’n’roll band from Beijing, China named the Sino Hearts. This band’s bio claims they are a “Beijing power pop trio via Vienna.” And they boast their influences to be The Boys, The Flamin Groovies,  Protex, The Barracudas, Firestarters, and bunch of other bands as well as the Real Kids…. A punk band from Beijing? Are you kidding? Nope. They just were here in Japan and played some cool shows last month!

At #2 is a video of a cool “Sunshine Garage Pop” track that was just released this morning! No kidding! It’s the one and only Lisa Mychols! At this week’s #1 is a band introduced to us by DJ Alex Kish of Wassup Rocker Fame! Their name is Hayley and the Crushers and they are a Bubblegum Punk & Roll outfit from San Luis Obispo, California! Hayley and the Crushers say they are, “Poolside Glitter Trash. You went to the beach to get a tan but were rudely interrupted by a gaggle of leather-clad beasts feasting on beer and ho-hos under the pier.” Hey! That’s happened to me!

Their bio states: “The ‘B’ Girls are a Canadian all girl rock’n roll band that formed in 1976 and recorded on Bomp Records. They moved to NYC in 1977 and toured w the Clash.” The B-Girls are coming to Japan in September!

Starting us off today is another band from the exploding Australian band scene. Their band name is Tony Dork and they were introduced to us by DJ Alex Kish of Wassup Rocker Fame! Tony Dork are from Melbourne and their bio says, “Stiff bikkies! we do band.” Well, OK. If you say so!

This is cool. I like how it seems they don’t give a shit.

That’s an unusual crowd! Check out their new video that just came out yesterday.

It’s time once again for the Top 3 Indies Artist Video Countdown for Aug. 4, 2018!

Starting us off today is is a punk rock band from Ontario, Canada and their name is PUP. We got turned onto this fab band by world-famous DJ Andrew Nordfelt of PoDunkRadio.com.
Pup says they like “Rap karaoke. Wendy’s. Mid-summer tobogganing.” This particular video is a quite entertaining music video/rockmentary about the death of a loved one: his car. I think you’ll laugh. I certainly did.

This week at #1 is a hot new rock band from Atlanta, Georgia that has been getting airplay on my FM radio show on InterFM, “The Mike Rogers Show” and will again tomorrow morning. They are called, Starbender! Starbender’s bio says, “Hailing from Atlanta, GA, StarBenders are a half-way home for the misunderstood. Front-woman, Kimi Shelter and her gang have concocted a perfect alchemic blend of androgynous rock and roll power with “stuck in your brain” pop melodies. Imagine David Bowie playing 7 minutes in heaven with Debbie Harry.”

Oh! And rumor has it that Starbenders are coming to Japan in October for a few shows! Be there and see them at an initimate club before they become super famous and then start playing football field sized festivals! Starbenders at a Tokyo Live House in October? The show of the year! SPOTLIGHT ARTIST!  Today’s spotlight goes to a girl’s punk band that I think just might be one of the best new girl’s punk band in Japan! They are Su凸ko D凹koi! How does one pronounce that? I don’t know, just try this: Su Ko D Koi! This band has been on our countdown a dozen times, maybe more! This is their brand new single. Of course, this hot track will get its world FM radio debut tomorrow morning on InterFM’s, “The Mike Rogers Show” (Every Sunday morning from 5 am ~ 7 am on InterFM 897 in Tokyo, Radio Neo 79.5 in Nagoya, and nationwide simulcast on Radiko.jp! About Mike in Tokyo Rogers: Mike has been a professional music/TV/radio/anime-related program producer in Japan since the eighties. He began in the music business in 1977 as lead vocalist with the legendary Los Angeles Punk Band, “The Rotters” (Sit on My Face Stevie Nix.). Starting us off today is Stiff Love. Stiff Love are a 4-piece garage punk band from Olympia, Washington. This band features members of a number of other cool bands such as Beta Boys, Lysol, Freak Vibe, Lowest Priority, Mutant Cross, Very Mental and The Vitamens. It’s time once again for the Top 3 Indies Artist Video Countdown for July 21, 2018!

Starting us off today is an artist from Los Angeles that Alex Kish from the Mighty Wassup Rocker Radio Show turns us onto, Taleen Kali! For me, in a nutshell, Taleen Kali is kind of like a Pop Siouxsie and the Banshees (sort of). Taleen Kali plays cosmic femme punk in Los Angeles. I LOVE THIS!!!! This is one of the most exciting new acts I’ve seen in 2018!!!! It’s FAB!

At #2 is yet another band sent by Alex Kish at the Wassup Rocker Radio Show! It’s a band from Phoenix, Arizona named, The Blankz. Their bio states: “The Blankz exist to turn your earholes into a pogo pit of glorious sonic orgasms. Formed in 2017, Phoenix’s weirdo pop loyalists put the punk rock into de-evolutionary overdrive…The Blankz take no shit, no prisoners, and no one gets away without a mark.”

The Blankz turn us onto some cool Pop Punk with “White Baby” which I hear is a true story on the life of their lead singer.

Like I said, I don’t know anything about this guy excepting he’s got the look, the madman idea, and he must be crazy! Cool!

It’s time once again for the Top 3 Indies Artist Video Countdown for July 14, 2018!

Starting us off today if a fab group from Bristol, United Kingdom! Three ladies who call themselves, “IDestroy!” Look at these awesome review the ladies have been getting:

Next up at #2 are a band who was introduced to us by Alex Kish of Wassup Rocker Radio fame. The band’s name is “The Speedways” and they list their hometown as “Squaresville” all the while  their bio is a mystery. The Speedways do, though, claim their genre is: “ClassicPowerPop/HeavyOnTheHeartacheRock n Roll/’RonettesPunk.'”

This week’s #1 are Sweden’s best 60s Beat, Mod, Rock band, The Most! Holy Shit! The Most are so famous and fab, they even have a Wikipedia page! Wow! The Most bio says, “The Most is a Beat band from Umeå, Sweden… Drawing inspiration from old Blues, Jazz, Bluegrass, 50-60s Soul, 50-60s R&B but also from bands like The Zombies, The Kinks, and The Who, their music has been described as 1960s retro pop.”

SPOTLIGHT ARTIST!  Today’s spotlight goes to a Pop Punk trio from Tokyo named, “The CCS.” The CCS were introduced to us by Rock Critic and human living music encyclopeda, Masao Nakagami! The CCS are from Japan and they released their first EP “Seven” in 2015 and their latest album came in 2016. The band consists of Aoi (guitar), Rui (drums and song) and Ogane (bass and vocals).

About Mike in Tokyo Rogers: Mike has been a professional music/TV/radio/anime-related program producer in Japan since the eighties. He began in the music business in 1977 as lead vocalist with the legendary Los Angeles Punk Band, “The Rotters” (Sit on My Face Stevie Nix.). Next up is a three-piece band from Basingstoke (I guess that’s somewhere in the UK) and the band’s name is Pussycat and the Dirty Johnsons. They are a “Dirty Rock n Roll band” that was introduced to us by UK DJ Wayne Elliot of Pulsebeat radio. Mick says Helen Love are Welsh… So I guess that means they’re from “Welshland” (I think that’s a country up there near Norland.) Bwa! Ha! Ha!

I can’t find any FB page or much information about this fab band, so I’ll let Mick tell you: “Welsh day-glo bubblegum disco punks Helen Love have been favourites of mine ever since the early 90’s when in those pre internet days they’d pop up occasionally on the John Peel show. It’s always a joy to learn they’ve released a new single (and boy have they released some great singles; Joey Ramoney, Punk Boy,  Does Your Heart Go Boom, Long Live The UK Music Scene, Shifty Disco Girl, You Can’t Beat A Boy Who Loves The Ramones etc etc etc. I reckon a greatest hits by them made up of a dozen or so tracks would be as good as anyones). It’s time once again for the Top 3 Indies Artist Video Countdown for June 23, 2018! First up is a girls band from London named Primetime. Primetime were introduced to us by the legendary UK DJ, Mick Fletcher of the fab “Just Some Punk Songs” blog (One of, if not thee ‘Go to’ blogs for new punk music). Mick turns us onto two bands today: Primetime and our #1 song this week: The Blinders. But first, Primetime. Mick blogged about Primetime over two years ago (See? What are you doing here? Mick compares Primetime to Delta 5! “Almost 2 years to the day I posted a song from Primetime’s debut ep, telling you that they were a 4 piece post punk all female band from London and I made rather obvious comparisons with Delta 5.”

SPOTLIGHT ARTIST!  Today’s spotlight goes to a Japanese girls band that I saw live last night and they were awesome and wowed a packed house in Shinjuku. The band is a “Girls Three piece band” and they call themselves, “The Stephanies.” They headlined a fab show last night that also featured two of my other fave Japanese girls bands, “The Pats Pats” and “su凸ko d凹koi ” (Just say “Su Ko D Koi”). I’m going to air all three of these (my fave Japanese girls bands) on the FM radio Japan tomorrow morning on my radio show in Japan, The Mike Rogers Show every Sunday morning… (Mike Rogers Show – every Sunday from 5 am ~ 7 am. About Mike in Tokyo Rogers: Mike has been a professional music/TV/radio/anime-related program producer in Japan since the eighties. He began in the music business in 1977 as lead vocalist with the legendary Los Angeles Punk Band, “The Rotters” (Sit on My Face Stevie Nix.). As a university student, he was assistant to the legendary Rodney Bingenheimer (Rodney on the ROQ – KROQ Los Angeles from 1980 ~ 1981.) Mike was the first and only foreigner in Japanese history to become the General Manager of a major Japanese broadcasting station (TV Tokyo owned InterFM). Has produced a few smash hit programs (some real losers, too!) and several of Tokyo’s highest rated and most famous radio programs. A recent hit Internet TV program was “The TV Show” (Set Program with “Ninja Slayer”) which, between April – Oct. 2015, garnered over 10 million viewers.  He is currently producing and hosting “The Mike Rogers Show” every Sunday live on InterFM 89.7  in Tokyo and Radio Neo in Nagoya 79.5 and nationally broadcast on Radiko.jp (Internet radio).  And he is the creator and founder of the Mt. Fuji – Atami Film & VR Festival. It’s time once again for the Top 3 Indies Artist Video Countdown for June 9, 2018! First up is the legendary James Williamson (of Iggy Pop fame). James has a new band and a new record out. James’ new band is called, “James Williamson & the Pink Hearts” and their album, “Behind the Shade” will be out June 22.

Wilko Johnson’s brand new album ‘Blow Your Mind’ has been announced! This is Wilko’s first album of new material in 30 years and the follow up to the incredible ‘Going Back Home’.  The man himself said, ‘It’s the album I never thought I’d get to write!” Here’s the lead-off single for that album.

I have been playing them religiously EVERY WEEK on my radio show in Japan, The Mike Rogers Show every Sunday morning… (Mike Rogers Show – every Sunday from 5 am ~ 7 am.
