First up is a band named Flyying Colours. Quick! Here’s their webpage. At #1 this week are four guys from Atlanta, Georgia. They say they like to play rock n roll music and party. SPOTLIGHT ARTIST! First up is a band that was introduced to me by my friend Satoshi Miyaki. Another cool Japanese girl’s rock band!… But wait a minute! There’s a foreign girl in the band playing guitar too! Way cool! Their name is the Twinkle Twinkles. I know NOTHING about them as I have written to their label and have received no answer (that actually happens surprisingly a lot!) But when I played them on the radio on my Sunday show, everyone seemed to like it. About Mike in Tokyo Rogers: Mike has been a professional music/TV/radio/anime-related program producer in Japan since the eighties. He began in the music business in 1977 as lead vocalist with the crappy but legendary Los Angeles Punk Band, “The Rotters” (Sit on My Face Stevie Nix.). As a university student, he was assistant to the legendary Rodney Bingenheimer (Rodney on the ROQ – KROQ Los Angeles from 1980 ~ 1981.) Mike was the first and only foreigner in Japanese history to become the General Manager of a major Japanese broadcasting station (TV Tokyo owned InterFM). Has produced a few smash hit programs and several of Japan’s highest rated and most famous radio programs. Recent Smash Hits were “The TV Show” (Set Program with “Ninja Slayer”) which, between April – Oct. 2015, garnered over 10 million viewers.  He is currently producing and hosting “WTF?” the smash hit Sunday live show on InterFM 89.7 as well as Rakuten Power Morning everyday Mon. ~ Fri. 6 am ~ 10 am. His life’s dream is a motion picture which is near completion that he wrote and produced. The title is “Ghostroads – A Japanese Rock and Roll Ghost Story” which will be released by a major Japanese motion picture company and in theaters all across Japan in Oct. 2017. Oh, and Mike drinks too much.

It’s time once again for the Top 3 Indies Artist Video Countdown. The Top 3 best Indies and Alternative Music artists for the week of Nov. 19, 2016!

I found this video yesterday and it only had 142 views. I then sent it out to my friends in the industry and all the usual suspects… They all dig this big time. Now, here she is just for you! SPOTLIGHT MUSIC (MOVIE TRAILER!) On our weekly countdown, I usually spotlight at least one cool Japanese rock band. Today I’d like to introduce a hot new film that’s coming out in Japan called, “Garage Rockin’ Craze.” Garage Rockin’ Craze is about the Garage Rock boom in Tokyo and how it all started. This iconic film was made by my friends Mario Cuzic and Bryce Clarke. They overcame mountains of troubles to finish this fab film. I am so proud of them! By the way, the film comes out in theaters in Japan on Jan. 14, 2017 and runs for two weeks until Jan. 27, 2017… Go see it! By the way, I was able to get a sneak preview and thought it was a an exciting film. The entire time I watched, I thought, “God! I wish I had been there!” Well done, Mario and Bryce!… By the way, when you gonna be a guest on my radio show so that I can brag to everyone that I really do know you?

It’s time once again for the Top 3 Indies Artist Video Countdown. The Top 3 best Indies and Alternative Music artists for the week of Nov. 12, 2016!

First up is Suzy Blu from Leeds. Her webpage says, “Dark electric pop from Leeds (UK). Suzy Blu combines heavy old school beats with layers of feedback drenched melody, and experimental driving bass. Suzy Blu is a writer and poet who serves her black coffee vocals on a plate of electronic post-punk attitude.” Today’s track is the 4th of 6 singles she is releasing before the end of 2016. It’s fab! It’s time once again for the Top 3 Indies Artist Video Countdown. The Top 3 best Indies and Alternative Music artists for the week of Oct. 29, 2016! And it’s ladies nite once again! All female or female fronted bands!

Next up is Louise Distras. Louise Distras is an alternative rock singer-songwriter from Wakefield, West Yorkshire. I’m pretty sure, though, that I did read somewhere that described her as “The revival of British Punk” (or something to that effect) so that’s why I first checked her music out and I was not disappointed! Their webpage says: “Noise” has myriad connotations… a sound, a sonic disturbance, a fluctuation in a transmitted electrical signal, and so on, but for the moment, tune out the noise and tune in to NØISE. NØISE is the name of the musical endeavor that sees Shepard Fairey, known for creating iconic artwork, such as the Barack Obama “Hope” image, and the Obey Giant campaign, teaming with veteran musicians John Goff, Merritt Lear, and Joe Cassidy. It’s time once again for the Top 3 Indies Artist Video Countdown. The Top 3 best Indies and Alternative Music artists for the week of Oct. 22, 2016!

First up is a Garage Rock And Roll outfit lead a mysterious character known as Bobby “Pantichrist” Butler along with 4 other conspirators who make up an awesome group known as “The Shit.” The Shit hail from Switzerland in a town they refer to as “Bern, Baby, Burn!” This hot track is from their brand new 10 inch record entitled, “Rue du Chocolat.” They are even having a release party tonight… I wonder if I can make it there in time to crash it? No kidding… Well, not exactly my real niece… But I am proud enough of her and her dad (who is one of my best friends and a legendary stand up bassist) to call them my own. Shirley Manson and Garbage are awesome. Lenore, the little kid, is a natural… And, perhaps a future star? I can see her doing sequels and starring as Carrie….. Lenore! Great job! Well done! SPOTLIGHT ARTIST! Today’s Spotlight Artist is a hot Japanese girl’s rock band from Tokyo named Su Ko D Koi. These girls have been on our Top 3 Video countdown many times. in the past. This time they’ve made a play on Offenbach’s “Heaven and Hell.” (I know that because, even though I am an old punk, I live in a house with classically trained pianists.) Offenbach’s “Heaven and Hell” used to be a staple at children’s Sports Days at elementary schools in Japan… So this is quite humorous for the Japanese. It’s time once again for the Top 3 Video Countdown. The Top 3 best Indies and Alternative Music artists for the week of Oct. 1, 2016!

Starting us off is a hot new act from Mesa, Arizona (I think)… They are an Alternative Music Trio that I have been playing on my radio programs and will world debut their great new song, “Pizza,” tomorrow on WTF? But for today, here is a song that really caught my ear the first time I ever heard it, “To Close to the Flame.”

It’s time once again for the Top 3 Videos! The best of the Top 3 Indies Band videos for Sept. 17, 2016! And, drum roll, please! It’s Ladies Night once again! 4 hot new female fronted acts! First up is a duo from Lancashire in England, Holly and David, and they are called “The Lovely Eggs.” The describe their musical genre as, “You can’t make a square peg fit a round hole.” They also claim that their “NEW F**CKED UP, FUZZED OUT FREAK OUT 7” SINGLE “DRUG BRAGGIN'” (is on sale) NOW!!” Here’s their FB page. At #1 is a sister punk rock duo that I have been pushing BIG TIME for a couple of years now… Now I get to really brag! Guess what? They are opening for Green Day! God! I love it when I can say, “See? I told you so! I told you these girls were going to be big!” They are two sisters from central California. This is about their millionth time on our countdown (OK, well, maybe not quite a million times). Their name is Dog Party. I love this band. I am so proud of these two!!!!

SPOTLIGHT ARTIST! Today’s Spotlight Artist is another Japanese girl’s rock band from Tokyo named Kinoko Hotel (Mushroom Hotel). Kinoko Hotel is a Japanese woman four piece band. They describe themselves as “Garage punk, inspired by rock ‘n’ roll sounds of the late 1960s, but characterized by mushroom-hair.” I love this band! Oh, and they will appear as guests on my regular FM radio show “WTF?” tomorrow, Sunday, Sept. 18, 2016. Check it out! http://www.interfm.co.jp/wtf/

SPOTLIGHT ARTIST! Today’s Spotlight Artist is a Japanese rock band from Tokyo that is a standard in rock n roll circles here and quite highly regarded. I’ve seen their shows before and they always pack the house and are extremely entertaining. Their name is “The Mackshow.” I think you’ll dig these guys. Great sound. Great sense of humor too.
