It’s time once again for the Top 3 Indies Artist Video Countdown for July 28, 2018!

Starting us off today is Stiff Love. Stiff Love are a 4-piece garage punk band from Olympia, Washington. This band features members of a number of other cool bands such as Beta Boys, Lysol, Freak Vibe, Lowest Priority, Mutant Cross, Very Mental and The Vitamens. At #2 is a band that is no stranger to the countdown, it’s Daisy House. from Los Angeles, California. The Daisy House bio says they are, “Folk-rock, Folk, Alt, Indie, Baroque & Roll.” Baroque & Roll? Cool. Today’s track, “The Defender” is from their album “Western Man.”

Daisy House has been getting heavy airplay on my FM radio show: The Mike Rogers Show every Sunday morning… (Mike Rogers Show – every Sunday from 5 am ~ 7 am. You can listen live on InterFM 897 in Tokyo, Radio Neo 79.5 in Nagoya or nationally broadcast (and On-Demand) on radiko.jp).

At #1 this week is a band from Milan, Italy (really!) named The Duke of Surl. This band is cool and I’m surprised to find they are from Italy. They certainly do not sound like a lot of Italian bands today. Their amusing bio says: “Building explosion proof doors by day…And explosive grooves by night.”

SPOTLIGHT ARTIST!  Today’s spotlight goes to a Japanese rock band from Fukuoka, Kyushu. Kyushu is Japan’s Southernmost island and this is the band’s forth time on our countdown! Their name is Titty Twister! I LOVE THIS BAND! The band claimes their genre is: “Garage punk power pop Rockn’Roll.”

“Ghostroads – A Japanese Rock and Roll Ghost Story,” enjoyed its World-Premiere at the Raindance Film Festival in London on Sept. 25, 2017, and was released by a major Japanese motion picture company and in theaters all across Japan will celebrate the release of the DVD and Blu-Ray on sale all across Japan on June 13, 2018!

About Mike in Tokyo Rogers: Mike has been a professional music/TV/radio/anime-related program producer in Japan since the eighties. He began in the music business in 1977 as lead vocalist with the legendary Los Angeles Punk Band, “The Rotters” (Sit on My Face Stevie Nix.). As a university student, he was assistant to the legendary Rodney Bingenheimer (Rodney on the ROQ – KROQ Los Angeles from 1980 ~ 1981.) Mike was the first and only foreigner in Japanese history to become the General Manager of a major Japanese broadcasting station (TV Tokyo owned InterFM). Has produced a few smash hit programs (some real losers, too!) and several of Tokyo’s highest rated and most famous radio programs. A recent hit Internet TV program was “The TV Show” (Set Program with “Ninja Slayer”) which, between April – Oct. 2015, garnered over 10 million viewers.  He is currently producing and hosting “The Mike Rogers Show” every Sunday live on InterFM 89.7  in Tokyo and Radio Neo in Nagoya 79.5 and nationally broadcast on Radiko.jp (Internet radio).  And he is the creator and founder of the Mt. Fuji – Atami Film & VR Festival. Also his life’s dream is his just completed full-length motion picture, “Ghostroads – A Japanese Rock and Roll Ghost Story,” which enjoyed its World-Premiere at the Raindance Film Festival in London on Sept. 25, 2017, and was released by a major Japanese motion picture company and in theaters all across Japan from Sept. 2017 ~ Mar. 2018.  The DVD and Blu-Ray went on sale all across Japan on June 13, 2018!

Welcome back to Top 3 Videos. The Top New Artist Videos for the week of May 11, 2015. And do I ever have some hot videos for you guys and girls today!

First up today, or should I say, “First OFF! today”? Is a rock band from Los Angeles that’s been around since 2009. Wikipedia says,

“Off! was formed in Los Angeles, California in late 2009 by Circle Jerks/Black Flag singer Keith Morris, Burning Brides frontman Dimitri Coats, Redd Kross bassist Steven Shane McDonald, and Rocket From The Crypt/Hot Snakes drummer Mario Rubalcaba.”

The Circle Jerks were a seminal punk band from the late 1970s Los Angeles punk boom. So you know these guys aren’t youngsters. My band, the Rotters, played with them a few times. The first time was at Brendan Mullen’s “The Masque.” I think it was the Germs and the Circle Jerks headlining. We were one of the very first opening bands – you know, the cool bands start at 7 pm – we were on at 5 pm or something – and the only people there at that time were the cleaning ladies and the guys sweeping the parking lot.

This video is hilarious. It is the birthday celebration for lead singer Keith Morris’ 59th birthday. For that birthday, he wants the band to go sky diving. Jack Black stars as a hardcore deranged skydiving coach who takes the guys up in the plane. The trip takes a horrifying, gory and very bloody turn when the LSD kicks in.

Next up is a new “Garage punk power pop Rockn’Roll” group named Titty Twister from Fukuoka in Kyushu, Japan. Titty Twister are: Howlin’ Kimiko on guitar and vocals, Dee Dee Kyoko on guitar, Maddaddy Shu on drums and Akichang on bass. Finally, today’s freebie. Here’s a delightful band from Tokyo, Japan named the Watanabes but with a twist! This is what Wikipedia says:

“The Watanabes are a Tokyo based indie pop rock band with members from the UK and Japan. Their jangly alt pop sound has drawn comparisons to melody driven indie acts such as Belle and Sebastian, Teenage Fan Club, Crowded House and 1980’s Liverpool band The Pale Fountains, while their lyrics often touch upon their experiences in Japan… their soft acoustic melodies make an easier comparison to other British bands such as The Beatles or The Kooks… The band are fronted by British brothers Duncan and Selwyn Walsh on vocals and guitar.”
