Top 3 Indies Artist Videos! Mar. 23, 2018: Upsahl, Atomic Suplex, Ginger Wildheart, Television Generation!

It’s time once again for the Top 3 Indies Artist Video Countdown for Mar. 23, 2018! Starting off the countdown today are four  guys in a band from London named Atomic Suplex. Terminal Escape (Music From the Underground) writes: “Atomic Suplex blast through some of the most insane sounding rock ‘n roll I’ve ever come across, 24th Century Buddy Holly broadcasting from Mars.”  Cool, eh?

Next up is Ginger Wildheart with something from his latest solo work entitled, “Ghost in the Tanglewood.” This is a great record and definitely, one of the best this year. Next up is a trio from Denver, Colorado (???? But, they sound like Brits!) who call themselves, “Television Generation.” Their label, Fuschia, says: “…Lush with hard edged guitar sections, high energy vocals, and punk rock attitude, the record boasts the aesthetic of indie rock anthems.” Television Generation’s newest EP, “Peel” is out and on sale now.

At #1 this week is an artist from Phoenix, Arizona. Her name is Upsahl. Indie Shuffle writes: “So uhhh.. the guitar line on this song was recorded in a bathroom. I mean I guess that’s not surprising given that inspiration can strike anywhere — but Upsahl stuck with the original recording. Which is perhaps what gives it its cool alt-rock-pop vibe.”

It’s time once again for the Top 3 Indies Artist Video Countdown for Mar. 17, 2018! Today I have a bunch of new punk bands. Starting off the countdown today is a band introduced to us by Alex over at Wassup Rocker Radio (Here’s their Twitter account: https://twitter.com/WassupRckrRadio). The band’s name is Mary’s Kids and they are a punk band from Stockholm, Sweden. Their bio states they are influenced by: “DEAD MOON, DEAD BOYS, MINOR THREAT, BLACK FLAG, RAMONES, ALL…” So that’s pretty good, I think.

At #3 is a band from Orange County near Los Angeles. Their name is Darky Dark and the Junkie Bunch. This is some heavy shit. Shocking, really. I haven’t heard/see anything this shocking since The Dead Kennedys or Fear.

At #2 is my fave new band of the last year or so. From Australia, Amyl & the Sniffers. Amyl got their name because the lead singer’s name is Amy Louise. They are about to make some huge announcements. If you get a chance to see these guys live, Go! They are going to be big!  This is their latest single called, “Cup of Destiny” which just came out!

At #1 this week are no strangers to the countdown, they are my favorite band from New York! They are The Baby Shakes! Their Bio says, “Baby Shakes are a rock n’ roll-punk band from New York City. Mary on lead vocals and guitar, Judy on lead guitar and vocals, Claudia on bass and vocals, and Ryan on drums. With catchy melodic vocals over dirty guitars and a killer rhythm section, their influences range from The Ramones and Slade to Chuck Berry and 60’s Motown girl groups.“

It’s time once again for the Top 3 Indies Artist Video Countdown for Mar. 10, 2018! And starting off the countdown today are a punk outfit from London named, “The Proud City Fathers.” They say their influences are: “Roots Radicals, Punk Rockers, & Reggae.” Their bio states: “West London council estates and Henry Compton School where the birth place of this band. The first incarnation of this band was called ‘suicide’. Over the years many name changes followed ‘sytematic death’, ‘the filth’, ‘National Cunts’ and eventually ‘PROUD CITY FATHERS.’”  National Cunts!? Hilarious.

They been getting some great reviews, like: “Funny how a band can be both sobering and intoxicating all at once. Boat Show is that band.”

It’s time once again for the Top 3 Indies Artist Video Countdown for Mar. 3, 2018!

And starting off the countdown today are from Los Angeles and they are a “rock, punk, power pop, and alternative rock” outfit called, “Professor and the Madman.” Their bio says, “There’s a musical adventure coming from Orange County, California and the UK, orchestrated by Professor and the Madman.” Punk Globe writes, “Sean Elliott and Alfie Agnew of D.I. and Rat Scabies and Paul Gray of the Damned have gotten together to make one hell of an album. It’s full of different sounds for different songs and each musician brings in their specialty. As a fan of D.I. and the Damned, it’s hard to explain without gushing. It’s got some definite early garage psychedelia, some pop, some rock and some punk rock.”

At #2 on this week’s chart is the latest from Peter118 in the UK. I hear some music rag compared Peter118 to the Sex Pistols and now people are up in arms and either loving them or hating them.

It’s time once again for the Top 3 Indies Artist Video Countdown for Feb 24, 2018! And starting off the countdown today are Amyl & the Sniffers. At #2 is my new fave new group for 2018 (I found Amyl and the Sniffers in 2017!) and their name is the Reckless Drifters and they are from Los Angeles. The Reckless Drifters are Dramarama’s John Easdale & Mark Englert, The Woolly Bandits’ Christa Collins, Miss Derringer’s Sylvain De Muizon, & original Social Distortion drummer Derek O’Brien. This os their debut single and it is a cover of an old Hank Williams tune (Yeah. You read that right, Hank Williams.) My dad loved Hank Williams and when I first heard this rendition it dropped my jaw…. It takes some real special talent to cover a Hank Williams classic and actually make it original and, dare I say it? Better than the original!

At #1 this week are the Baby Shakes! The Baby Shakes just finished a bunch of shows in Florida where they played with my friends from my old hometown, Mel Bergman and the Phantom Surfers! So to commemorate that event and because it was guitarist Judy’s birthday the other day (well, not the ‘other day,’ more like 4 months ago) here they are at #1…. This also gets to #1 this week as Shuichi Masaki from Fukuoka’s awesome Garage Band, Titty Twister randomly put this video up as his recommendation last night. I was shocked and told him, “Hey! Shuichi san! Ken Nishikawa and I made that Baby Shakes video!”

It’s time once again for the Top 3 Indies Artist Video Countdown for Feb 18, 2018! And today we got a Melbourne, Australia special. Why? Because there’s a shit-hot garage/punk movement going on over there and they have a TON of hot bands! Today, I will introduce my 4 faves

First up from Melbourne, Australia is a band that I think is the most exciting female fronted punk band since Joan Jett or X-Ray Spex. They are called Amyl & the Sniffers and they are happening… They are going to have some huge announcements soon so if you get a chance to see them, do it while you can… I’m expecting this band to be bigger than the Runaways and up there with the Clash. No shit. They have been getting airplay all over the world and the reaction has been incredible… But not really incredible… When you see this band, you’ll think, “Of course, this is going to be huge!”

And, another new band from Melbourne are four ladies who called themselves, “Parsnip” and describe their music as “Queen Wave.” This is the second time Parsnip has been on the countdown and the first time I put them on, the leader of Japan’s most fab garage rock heroes, Christopher from “The Routes” cheered and told me he had just bought the Parsnip record! You’ll dig this.

At #1 is a band who crept up on the scene with their monster hit, “Smoko”! It’s the Chats! The Chats have been together for just over a year now and, actually, their first video, “Smoko” became a viral sensation when it was released in October of 2017 and received about 600,000 views in a few weeks. Now, just 4 months after release their first video has hit over 1.4 million views. Not bad for an unsigned Pub-Punk band, eh wot?
