Top 3 Indies Videos 5/28/17! The Atomics, Fiona Silver, Plastic Girl in Closet (Japan), Blaire Alise & the Bombshells!

It’s time once again for the Top 3 Indies Artist Video Countdown. The Top 3 best Indies and Alternative Music artists for the week of May 28, 2017!

First off are three babes and a guy who were introduced to us by Kona Cindy, the curator to the stars. They are from Los Angeles and they are known as the Atomics. Get this; they are brothers and sisters – or so it would seem. They got a great write up in V Magazine. I’ve been playing this on WTF? (Every Sunday morning from 8 ~ 10 on InterFM 897) every week recently. This song is hot! Here’s their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/TheAtomicsOfficial/

3) The Atomics – Voulez Vous https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzyuJnA7cPo

At #2 on today’s chart is an artist that debuted on our May 14th, 2017 chart: Blaire Alise & the Bombshells. They are a “60s Garage Pop,” and “Girl group inspired rock n’ roll with a sucker punch of garage rock!” This is hot. Look for lots from them in the coming weeks. This is the new sound of Detroit Garage Pop! They have a cool Facebook page too: https://www.facebook.com/blairebombshell/

2) Blaire Alise & the Bombshells – Telemono https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nqpkSd6ci2E

And at this week’s #1 is yet another artist brought to us by Kona Cindy! Her name is Fiona Silver! Fiona hails from East Village in New York and is getting rave reviews! She was also nominated for GO! Magazine’s Nightlife Award for Best Performer! Wow! Need to know more? Today’s #1 tune is from her album, “Little Thunder.” Check her Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/FionaSilver/?pnref=lhc

1) Fiona Silver – Take Me Down https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JkN36WEHEG0

Spotlight Artist! Today’s spotlight goes to a trio from Iwate (That’s way up north by Hokkaido – Japan’s northernmost island) and they were introduced to us by my friend Satoshi Miyaki. The band’s name is Plastic Girl in Closet. Their music is a sort of Shoe-gazer type but they describe themselves as “J-pop, Indiepop, Guitarpop.” I think it is fab. Here’s their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/plasticgirlincloset/

Spotlight Artist! PLASTIC GIRL IN CLOSET – Pretty Little Bag  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gAjUuEi7DQk

That’s all for today! See you next week when we return to the Top 3 Indies Artist Videos Countdown. See ya! – Mike in Tokyo Rogers

Top 3 Indies Videos 5/21/17! Moja (Japan), Baby Shakes, Sloan Peterson, Jessica Hernandez & The Deltas!

It’s time once again for the Top 3 Indies Artist Video Countdown. The Top 3 best Indies and Alternative Music artists for the week of May 21, 2017!

Once again, today’s line up is awesome (if I must say so myself!) First up is a new artist from Brisbane, Australia named Sloan Peterson. Her bio says, “Sloan Peterson; a love child of 50’s guitar pop and modern garage rock, bursting with a warmth that’s inseparable from her private identity. Influenced by everything from Elvis, to Latin legend Xavier Cugat or the fashion statements of Nancy Sinatra and Bowie – Sloan Peterson is the sum of these influences that adds up to so much more.
Her debut EP is in progress.” Today’s number is her debut single.

Of course she has a Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/sloanpetersonmusic

#3) Sloan Peterson – 105 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbP2PUKDDj0

At #2 is Jessica Hernandez & The Deltas who hail from Detroit, Michigan. In 2014, Jessica Hernandez & The Deltas released their debut “Secret Evil” and spent two years on the road; countless headline gigs, supports with such like-minded acts as Gogol Bordello, Social Distortion and St. Paul & The Broken Bones, and well-received sets at festivals like Lollapalooza, ACL Music Festival, Osheaga, and Bonnaroo. Long hailed as an explosive and theatrical live outfit, Jessica Hernandez & The Deltas will celebrate the release of they new album, “Telephone // Telefono” (On Sale June 23, 2017) with a non-stop North American tour. They’ll debut in Japan on my nationally broadcast FM radio show, “WTF?” on InterFM897 tomorrow, Sunday, May 21, 2017.

Here’s their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pg/JessicaHernandezandTheDeltas

#2) Jessica Hernandez & The Deltas – Sorry I Stole Your Man  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-v76IVtV-Y

At #1 this week are no strangers to the countdown, New York’s own, The Baby Shakes! Their Bio says, “Baby Shakes are a rock n’ roll-punk band from New York City. Mary on lead vocals and guitar, Judy on lead guitar and vocals, Claudia on bass and vocals, and Ryan on drums. With catchy melodic vocals over dirty guitars and a killer rhythm section, their influences range from The Ramones and Slade to Chuck Berry and 60’s Motown girl groups.

I love this band! AND their newest album “Turn it Up” goes on sale today (May 19, 2017)!

#1) Baby Shakes – Do What You Want https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5xF6Yl8RAqc

TODAY’S SPOTLIGHT ARTIST! Today’s feature are a kickass duo from Tokyo named Moja who are going to appear at the Chester Live 2017 festival in the UK this year! Wow! Moja’s bio says, “What’s Moja sound like??? It’s thundering, passionate, high-speed Dance Music of the kind you’ve which never experienced before. Everyone dances like mad at our shows. And we love to share that space and experience with the audience. We’ve performed in many places such as Tokyo, Toronto, Quebec, New York, London, Liverpool, Hong Kong, Italy, and more…” I’ve seen Moja live several times before. It is difficult to describe their live shows… I haven’t seen anything like it since Iggy Pop. This video captures the live atmosphere of the band about as best as I think possible – which is impossible. This video was given rave reviews by the drummer of the Libertines.

Here’s Moja’s Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/MOJA-203061873063258/

Top 3 Indies Videos 5/14/17! Blaire Alise & the Bombshells, Lisa Mychols, Pats Pats (Japan), Single By Sunday

It’s time once again for the Top 3 Indies Artist Video Countdown. The Top 3 best Indies and Alternative Music artists for the week of May 14, 2017! And do I have some hot music for you today! Really! There were so many great new tunes that I had a hard time picking the best, so today and next week’s countdown’s should be KILLER!

First up is a group from Detroit Michigan that was introduced to us by my friend Shuichi Masaki from the band Titty Twister in Kyushu! Thanks Masaki san! I LOVE THIS BAND! Their name is Blaire Alise & the Bombshells. I’m not sure but this could be my favorite new find of the year so far! They describe themselves as “60s Garage Pop,” and “Girl group inspired rock n’ roll with a sucker punch of garage rock!” This is hot. Look for lots from them in the coming weeks. This is the new sound of Detroit Garage Pop! I’m going to play them on the radio tomorrow (Sunday, May 14, 2017) on WTF? InterFM897. So check it out!

Blaire Alise & the Bombshells remind me of early Blondie (and I know what I am talking about because I was there at that time and I saw early Blondie!) They have a cool Facebook page too: https://www.facebook.com/blairebombshell/

#3) Blaire Alise & the Bombshells – I Got Something   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BygoQ8qL-zA

At this week’s #2 is an artist who has been on our countdown several times. The last time was just two weeks ago! Her name is Lisa Mychols. Lisa is HOT and she has gotten some awesome reviews:

“Bridging the gap between 1960’s girl groups and modern aggressive pop” -Dan Pavelich, Vandalay Records

“The Queen of power pop!” -Power Popaholic

I’ve liked Lisa Mychols for a long time, since Rodney on the Roq introduced me to her… Today’s track on the Top 3 is a world debut! Check it out! Here’s her Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/lisa.mychols

#2) Lisa Mychols -Loving You Baby  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FVw7JlTCqcg

At #1 is a Pop/Rock band from Glasgow, Scotland! Man! There are so many good bands from Scotland (and Kyushu, Japan) it must be a worldwide rock n roll explosion! They are 4 guys who go by the name of Single By Sunday.  It looks like these guys got together in June 2015 to form a band but they’ve been friends since childhood. They has a massive Social Media following that is quite impressive. Here’s their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/SingleBySunday/

#1) Single By Sunday – Nevereverever   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ER95fsLcs4

TODAY’S SPOTLIGHT ARTIST! Today’s feature are a trio from Tokyo and they are one of my favorite groups. The Pats Pats! I think this is their 3rd time on the countdown. This is a video made by my friend Ken Nishikawa and myself (because we like this band so much!) This was shot at Shibuya O-Nest on April 6, 2017. Ken did all the editing while I slept on the sofa! The lyrics for this song are below the video. Here’s the Pats Pats Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/patspats/

TODAY’S SPOTLIGHT ARTIST! THE PATS PATS 「A.A.A」 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7-4IWBiSSU

A.A.A. lyrics:

What’s your favorite thing in the world
You can have anything you want
Where’s your favorite place in the world
You can go anywhere you want

(Chorus)
Ti amo ti amo
I never met someone like you
Ti amo ti amo
I’m in love with you baby

A.A.A

I wish for nothing besides your love
I need you more than you need me
What are you doing tomorrow?
I want to know more about you

(Chorus)

Top 3 Indies Videos 5/07/17! Jungles (Japan), pinksideofthemoon, The Coathangers, Skating Polly!

It’s time once again for the Top 3 Indies Artist Video Countdown. The Top 3 best Indies and Alternative Music artists for the week of May 6, 2017!

First up is Skating Polly. This is their 3rd time (I think) on the countdown. Rodney on the Roq plays them a lot. I think they are often too loud for WTF? on InterFM 897 on Sunday mornings…. But maybe not this particular song! Skating Polly Skating Pollywas formed in Oklahoma in 2009. The band consists of multi-instrumentalists Kelli Mayo  and Peyton Bighorse, who were 9 and 14 years old when the band formed. They are a Riot Grrrrl Indie Pop band. Here’s their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/SkatingPolly/

#3) Skating Polly – Louder In Outer Space  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLjDYd35p5k

At #2 is a pinksideofthemoon…. Legendary producer and engineer Lee Popa and songstress Jolee Popa make up pinksideofthemoon and they hail from Portland, Oregon. Their FB page describes their music as, “Driven by electronic beats and grooving loops pinksideofthemoon mixes live guitars, bass, keyboards and synthesizers and covers them with a smooth coating of silky female vocals with Dub style echo and effects to create the pinksideofthemoon.”

Besides all that, pinksideofthemoon have been getting regular airplay on my weekly radio show, WTF? What the Funday? (Every Sunday 8 am ~ 11 am on InterFM 897) And they will be guests on the show tomorrow, Sunday, May 7, 2017! Here’s their FB page: https://www.facebook.com/Pinksideofthemoon-110587222355798/

#2) pinksideofthemoon “Lost in Space” Remix by John Fryer “Don’t Let the Smile Fool You”  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKtEKvIgHtw

At #1 is a song that just came out yesterday. It’s the Coathangers. These girls are one of my favorite bands over the last year or so and this is at least 5 times that they’ve been on the countdown. They call themselves a “Yes! Wave!” band and they hail from Atlanta, Georgia. Their biography states: “The story goes that four young women decided to start a band for the sole purpose of being able to hang out and play parties. They weren’t going to let the fact that none of them knew how to play any instruments get in the way of their having a good time.”

Ha! I think they are awesome! Here’s their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/TheCoathangersATL/

#1) The Coathangers – Captain’s Dead https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3bqo4tuTYM

TODAY’S SPOTLIGHT ARTIST! Is a band called “The Jungles.” They used to be called, Red Bacteria Vacuum. Or they still are? Who the hell knows? I heard they were now called, “The Jungles” but I can’t find much on a band with that name – duh! And there is no Facebook page for the Jungles (as far as I can see – If you know one, let me know!) But there is a page for Red Bacteria Vaccum! Anyway, the info is sketchy, but their bio says: “Red Bacteria Vacuum (レッドバクテリアバキューム) is an all-girl Japanese punk band from Osaka formed in 1998 consisting of Ikumi, Kassan, and Jasmine. The band relocated to Tokyo in 2000.”

Here’s their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Red-Bacteria-Vacuum-184462438253621/

About Mike in Tokyo Rogers: Mike has been a professional music/TV/radio/anime-related program producer in Japan since the eighties. He began in the music business in 1977 as lead vocalist with the legendary Los Angeles Punk Band, “The Rotters” (Sit on My Face Stevie Nix.). Mike was the first and only foreigner in Japanese history to become the General Manager of a major Japanese broadcasting station (TV Tokyo owned InterFM). Has produced a few smash hit programs (some real losers, too!) and several of Tokyo’s highest rated and most famous radio programs. A recent hit program was “The TV Show” (Set Program with “Ninja Slayer”) which, between April – Oct. 2015, garnered over 10 million viewers.  He is currently producing and hosting “WTF?” the hugely popular Sunday live show on InterFM 89.7 . Top 3 Indies Videos 4/30/17! No Girlfriends, pinksideofthemoon, Lisa Mychols, Bo-Peep!

It’s time once again for the Top 3 Indies Artist Video Countdown. The Top 3 best Indies and Alternative Music artists for the week of Apr. 30, 2017! And, yippee! It’s Ladies Night (sort of) on the Top 3 Countdown today – all bands that are fronted by the fairer sex! (Is that politically correct for me to say that? No? Well it doesn’t matter because this is my blog and this is Japan so no one here understands what I’ve written here anyway!)

First up is a hot new act introduced to us by the world-famous Kona Cindy, the music curator to the stars! Cindy tells me (If you caught that Brian Eno reference, give yourself 100 extra credits!)”No Girlfriends are awesome!” I agree and their Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/NoGirlfriendsBand/) says they are interested in “Ladies Night” too! What timing! (Really, I’m not making that up) so they are perfect to kick off our countdown this week. This video for “Mine” was just released on April 27. Come and get it!

#3) No Girlfriends – Mine  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FppMTK9J-gM&sns=em

At #2 is a real diamond in the rough. They are called pinksideofthemoon… That’s right. No capitalization and all one word: pinksideofthemoon. Legendary producer and engineer Lee Popa and songstress Jolee Popa. pinksideofthemoon hails from Portland, Oregon and their FB page describes their music as, “Driven by electronic beats and grooving loops pinksideofthemoon mixes live guitars, bass, keyboards and synthesizers and covers them with a smooth coating of silky female vocals with Dub style echo and effects to create the pinksideofthemoon.” Rumor has it that pinksideofthemoon are currently hanging out in Tokyo.

Besides all that, pinksideofthemoon have been getting regular airplay on my weekly radio show, WTF? What the Funday? (Every Sunday 8 am ~ 11 am on InterFM 897) Here’s their FB page: https://www.facebook.com/Pinksideofthemoon-110587222355798/

#2) pinksideofthemoon – Keep on Dancin  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dp-yoyJ2XBU

At this week’s #1 is an artist who has been on our countdown several times. her name is Lisa Mychols. Last.FM says: “For an artist without a great many credits to her name, Lisa Mychols made an impressive splash on the Los Angeles pop underground of the 1990s, especially with her band the Masticators. Once the new millennium had dawned and that vibrant musical community had begun to emerge aboveground, Mychols had developed into one of its most accomplished songwriters, taking an obsession with the 1960s and 1970s AM dial and updating the sound for a new generation of pop/rock addicts.”

I’ve liked Lisa Mychols for a long time, since Rodney on the Roq introduced me to her… But I was blown away when I found out that she has a small but hard core following in Japan! When the music geeks told me they all had Lisa Mychols LPs I was blown away! Here’s her Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/lisa.mychols

#1) Lisa Mychols – Don’t Wanna Close My Eyes   https://youtu.be/LcRvjJ-LM7c

TODAY’S SPOTLIGHT ARTIST! Is Fukuoka Japan’s own Bo-Peep! (What? Another Fukuoka band? It’s been bands from Fukuoka like crazy recently: The Routes, Titty Twister, Samehada Shiroko and Dynamite, The Googles, The Swamps!? What’s going on down there in Fukuoka? It’s a rock n roll explosion!

Bo-Peep has been around since 2002 or so and (I believe) they got their FM radio debut on my show back in 2005 or 2006. Rumor has it that Lee Popa and Jolee Popa were spotted at Bo-Peeps live show last night in Tokyo. Riiiiiiiggggght! And I saw Elvis last weekend at the grocery store! Bo-peep is one of the hottest girl’s bands around. This band is going places! They were featured on my last episode of  Japanese Girl Rock Bands (And More) That Matter in 2017!  over at another blog I waste my time on. (modernmarketingjapan.blogspot.jp/2017/04/japanese-girl-rock-bands-and-more-that.html)

It’s time once again for the Top 3 Indies Artist Video Countdown. The Top 3 best Indies and Alternative Music artists for the week of Apr. 23, 2017! And, hey! Whaddya know? It’s Ladies Night (sort of) on the Top 3 Countdown today!

At #3 is Hands Off Gretel. They are a 4-piece alternative rock band from South Yorkshire, UK. Someone asked me if they were the lovechild of Courtney Love and Marilyn Manson… I just replied, “Grrrrr!” If you like Nirvana , Hole , L7 , Marilyn Manson , Rob Zombie , Brody Dalle, Courtney Love or Bikini Kill, then this could be your new favorite band. They have a Facebook page too: https://www.facebook.com/handsoffgretel/

#3) Hands Off Gretel – Bad Egg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6sNuWrhqQY4

At #2 is a rockin’ band that has been getting lots of airplay on my FM radio show here in Japan (WTF? InterFM 897 Every Sunday from 8 am ~ 10 am – Please come “Like” our FB page (https://www.facebook.com/WhattheFunday76.1/) and Potty Mouth are a trio from Northampton, MA and their name is, “Potty Mouth.” I’m told Potty Mouth does “90s music better than 90s bands did.” Cool! Check it out. Here’s their Facebook age too: https://www.facebook.com/pottymouthworld/ Today’s track is called, “Smash Hit” and it is their new single.

#2) Potty Mouth – Smash Hit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yo5DneCjIFQ

At #1 this week is an extremely cool artist with a story that’s gonna blow your mind! Her name is Daphne Guinness. When I first saw her videos and heard her music, I loved it because it somehow reminded me of David Bowie… That’s a huge compliment that I can’t remember ever saying about anyone (excepting maybe Julian Cope or Brett Andersen of Suede)!

Daphne is an Artist, Poet, Musician + Philanthropist! Her bio says, “Daphne has worked across many mediums including music, photography, art and literature. Her support of new and undiscovered talent in fashion has been widely documented. She’s been a fixture in the contemporary art world, an Oscar nominated film producer and a muse to so many creative people. There was always the music. The poetry that filled her notebooks throughout the years and the melodies she heard from within. Now, after working for many long hours with famed record producer Tony Visconti, Daphne has completed her first collection of songs, Optimist In Black.”

Hey Daphne san! I heard you are coming to Japan in May! Please come and be a guest on my radio show!!!!! We’d love to have you! (WTF? InterFM 897 Every Sunday from 8 am ~ 10 am (https://www.facebook.com/WhattheFunday76.1/)

#1) Daphne Guinness – The Long Now https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C73GeqVfjUo

TODAY’S SPOTLIGHT ARTIST! Femmepop! Femmepop is an extremely talented (and motivated) artist from the UK. Actually, Femmepop is Margaret O’ Sullivan. Margaret does the vocals, guitars, synths, keyboards, recording and the production of all her music. Wow! That’s talent and guts. I like it.

Her newest album just came out on March 31st and it is entitled, ‘Dancing With Myself.’ Here’s her Facebookhttps://www.facebook.com/Femmepop/

TODAY’S SPOTLIGHT ARTIST!  Femmepop – Bright Noise (New Single) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJFpRsV_rRQ

Top 3 Indies Videos 4/16/17! Warbly Jets, Baby Shakes, Samehada Shiroko & Dynamite, Ryan Hamilton & the Traitors!

It’s time once again for the Top 3 Indies Artist Video Countdown. The Top 3 best Indies and Alternative Music artists for the week of Apr. 16, 2017!

First up is a band introduced to us by my former boss and DJ GOD, Rodney Bingenheimer of “Rodney on the Roq” fame. The band is the Warbly Jets! The Warbly Jets are a 4-piece currently residing in Los Angeles. That’s about all I can tell you about these guys. Their webpage has no bio and their Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/warblyjets), just mentions the 4-piece and L.A. It doesn’t matter to me. I think this is one awesome song that we’ve been playing on WTF a lot! (please come “Like” our FB page, too! https://www.facebook.com/WhattheFunday76.1/)

#3) Warbly Jets – Alive   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hDVHvirhpKk

Next up is a guy who was introduced to me by my good friend, Ginger Wildheart. It’s Ryan Hamilton & The Traitors. These guys are a trans-Atlantic rock n roll band hailing from Texas and the UK. And they just released their newest album called, The Devil’s in the Detail. They have a Facebook page with all the details. Check it! https://www.facebook.com/RyanHamiltonandTheTraitors/

#2) Ryan Hamilton & The Traitors – Heavy Heart   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lUop4uBfPZg

At number one is probably one of my mostest favorite American rock bands today. It is the Baby Shakes! There are two reasons this is #1 this week: First, they came in first place in the New York Deli Magazine readers poll as “Best Emerging Artist 2017!” award! Wow! That’s huge!!!! BEST OF NYC POLL – THE FINAL RESULTS! #1. Baby Shakes!!!! nyc.thedelimagazine.com/best-nyc-poll-final-results-baby-shakes-best-nyc-emerging-band-2017

And, secondly, this video is this week’s #1 because it was made by my friends, Les Deciduous, Ken Nishikawa and me! Seriously, we just finished this video this week. As usual Ken Nishikawa was a magician on the editing keys and he and Les did a fab job of shooting. I did some too (all out of focus shots are mine! Hee, hee…) It’s not hard to make a great video, though, when your subjects are as hot as the Baby Shakes (Girl’s in the audience were yelling, “Beef Cake, Baby!” when drummer Ryan walked on stage!) The Baby Shakes are HOT and I pick them to be the biggest (sort of) girl’s band since the Runaways or Joan Jett. Dig it! Here’s their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/babyshakesny/

#1) Baby Shakes – Do What You Want  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pifkY_dLqYk&t

Top 3 Indies Music Videos 4/9/17! Miss Derringer, 222, Glam Skanks, Yanagiya Mutsumi&The Ratbones (Japan)

It’s time once again for the Top 3 Indies Artist Video Countdown. The Top 3 best Indies and Alternative Music artists for the week of Apr. 9, 2017!

First up is Miss Derringer! Miss Derringer is a trio from Los Angeles that is fronted by singer and visual artist Liz McGrath. She returned to the studio with many long-time friends. Drummer Clem Burke and guitarist Frank Infante, both Rock & Roll Hall of Fame members who contributed to a string of Blondie hits, punk legend Cheetah Chrome of the Dead Boys, former Social Distortion drummer Derek O’Brien, as well as guitarists Jimmy Wilsey (The Avengers/Chris Isaak) and Danny B. Harvey (The Head Cat/The Rockats) all contributed their considerable talents to the EP. This is their single from that latest work and here’s their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/missderringer

#3) Miss Derringer – Nobody to Come https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pi0Z3lfHJGk

Next up is a duo called 222. And they are introduced to us by sharp-eyed music scout, Kona Cindy. Cindy tells me (If you get the Brian Eno right there, give yourself high score!) Anyway, Cindy tells me that Rodney Bingenheimer of Rodney on the Roq (Kroq Los Angeles) fame loves this artist! If it’s good enough for Rodney, it’s good enough for me!

222 are Jade and Howard and they are from Los Angeles. Their blog says, “222 delivers their own power packed take on dance rock via a mixture of pop punk 80s/ 90s influenced rock mixed with current techno influences.” Here is their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/222jdband/

222 – I’m Not Trying to Be You …: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDTxQqIKhTU

At #1 this week is another band that is making waves and I noticed Rodney on the Roq started playing them too! They are the Glam Skanks from Los Angeles! I don’t know if this is a secret or not, but a little birdie told me that the Glam Skanks are about to break big with a tour of the UK and North America tours with a guy named Adam Ant! Ia that way cool or what?

The Glam Skanks are a rock n roll girl’s group with an attitude and a ton of glitter! I like it a lot! I think you’ll dig this cool video! Here’s their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Glamskanx/

#1) Glam Skanks – Bad Bitch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uh-h72EExjI

TODAY’S SPOTLIGHT ARTIST! Today’s Spotlight artist is from Japan! It’s Yanagiya Mutsumi & The Ratbones. How do I describe this madness? Well, Yanagiya Mutsumi is a legendary Japanese psychobilly musician (of “Battle of NinjaManz” fame) and the Ratbones are his newest project. Ratbones are a distinctly Japanese groove. It’s difficult to explain to westerners…. But, like any good joke, when you have to explain it, it doesn’t work well. Yanagiya Mutsumi & The Ratbones are to be experienced… I think this is hilarious. They will be guests on my nationally broadcast FM radio show, “WTF?” What the Funday on InterFM897 on Sunday April 9, 2017! Check it out!

Oh, Yanagiya Mutsumi has a Facebook page… Tell him I sent you: https://www.facebook.com/mutsumi.kubouchi

TODAY’S SPOTLIGHT ARTIST!  Yanagiya Mutsumi & The Ratbones – Soshite Atami no Hihokan  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gooYK-86G94

Top 3 Indies Music Videos 3/25/17! The Stephanies, Kolars, Bonsai Kitten, Fazerdaze!

It’s time once again for the Top 3 Indies Artist Video Countdown. The Top 3 best Indies and Alternative Music artists for the week of Mar. 25, 2017! As usual, all artists who make the Top 3 countdown, get an automatic pass to be aired on my nationally broadcast FM radio show, “WTF?” (What the Funday?) on InterFM 897 (Sundays 8 am ~ 10 am). interFm.co.jp/wtf/

Starting us off today are a band that were introduced to us by, Marleen of Bonsai Kitten. Bonsai Kitten are are “Rock riot from Berlin.” They have some interesting and amusing comments on their Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/BonsaiKittenBand/) It says, “All paws up!!! Do what you want to!!! Times are changing! Be the change you want to see in this fucking world! Open your mind + your eyes! Revolt!! Scream! Demostrate!!! Protest!!!!! Speak your mind!!!!! Do something!!!!!!! Be a part of this change!!!!!

This is the latest single from Bonsai Kitten.

#3) Bonsai Kitten – Mindcraft    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPu75Ka7pjk

At #2 is something by a brand new artist named Fazerdaze. Fazerdaze is “A girl in bedroom on guitar.” The label webpage says, “The brainchild of Amelia Murray, Fazerdaze began as a string of bedroom recordings created late in the night, emerging fully-formed in 2014 as her debut eponymous EP. A succinct collection of intimate, beautifully produced dream-pop written, produced and performed by Murray herself. It’s a significant first outing for the young New Zealander with layers of softly crunching guitars swirling over consistently driving drum machines, and sparse electronica.” This video was shot by Amelia and her friend Sam Kristofski. It reminds me of Astro Boy for some reason. It’s very cute. Here’s Fazerdaze’s Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/fazerdazemusic

#2) Fazerdaze – Lucky Girl    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=My4j3vgFxbE

At #1 this week is another new artist named “The Kolars.” The Kolars descirbe themselves as, “Desert Disco. Glam-a-Billy. Space Blues. R&Beyond.” OK? Sounds cool. The Kolars are a husband and wife duo. They are getting fab reviews. Check this: “KOLARS has created a sonic world that straddles self-described genres such as Desert Disco, R&Beyond, Space Blues, and Glam-a-billy . Rob produces, mixes, and writes the material. His studio experimentation is incorporated into the live show. Lauren has invented her own drumming style. She tap dances rhythms with her feet atop a bass drum while simultaneously playing a stand-up kit. She uses this dance to transform beats into natural extensions of her movement. The two perform with energy, sweat, and excitement, thrilling audiences with their unabashed exuberance.”
Go “Like” their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/kolarstheband/

#1) Kolars – One More Thrill https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D675mAfdNeU

TODAY’S SPOTLIGHT ARTIST! Today’s Spotlight Artist are no strangers to our countdown. It’s Japan’s own, The Stephanies! The other day, the Stephanies came on my radio show as guests and unveiled their newest single, “Haconia.”…. Then, we all went to eat sushi! Really!

Stephanies sushi 031217

Soon after, the Stephanies had their new single release party and tour final show on March 26… But, guess what? For the encore of their tour final, they kicked off their new tour that ends in May! Wow! Go like their Facebook page:  https://www.facebook.com/TheStephanies/
