Shit! It’s a Monday! I hate Mondays! The only good thing about Mondays is the Top 3 Video Countdown. Let’s get rockin’!
Oh my god! The first band up today is the New Piccadillys. This band is hot! The Piccadillys are “Shiny suits, twanging guitars, pounding drums & tight harmonies together with 60s sounds” I highly recommend checking out their Facebook page where you can find gems like this: “He is also remembered by many as Johnny MacRotten of the dangerously authentic ‘Scottish Sex Pistols’ and as front man for the more family friendly skiffle trio ‘Wray Gunn & The Rockets’.” You can’t make this shit up. Here they are with a cover of a classic Ramones tune.
Next up are the China Rats. China Rats are a four-piece indie rock band from Leeds, England, that the U.K. press has been hailing as the next Arctic Monkeys.
Next up, at #1 is a band that is coming to the big Japanese Rock Festival; Summer Fuji, or is it Fuji Sonic? I forget. Why? Because all summer festivals have crap sound and I don’t go to them. Nevertheless, I was the first one to play our #1 act in Japan (aren’t I always the first?) so this band is cool, even though the summer festivals all suck (I hate standing in line to take a pee too!)
At #1 is Drenge. Drenge are an English two-piece alternative rock band, based in Castleton, Derbyshire, England. The band is made up of Eoin Loveless, on guitar and vocals, and his younger brother Rory, on drums.
Today’s Freebie! オマケ！It’s Girlpool! Wikipedia says, “Girlpool is a punk rock band from Los Angeles, California. Its members are Cleo Tucker (guitar, vocals) and Harmony Tividad (bass, vocals), who are 18 and 19 years old, respectively. The band does not have a drummer.”

Hey! It’s a Friday in Japan and that means it’s time for the weekend! Finally! And the weekend means it’s also time for the second edition of Top 3 Videos – Weekend Edition for May 29, 2015. Can you believe that it’s almost June? The year is almost half over!
I’d like to say thanks to all the bands and labels that have started reaching out to us. With your help, we are able to make this countdown twice a week so keep the videos coming!
First off today is a band I just discovered about 30 minutes ago. If you loved the seventies punk band, X-Ray Specs, then you are going to love this band! They are called the Downtown Boys. Punk News Org says this:
“Downtown Boys are a political punk band from Providence, Rhode Island, who shake things up in a variety of ways. They sing in English and Spanish, switching between languages with such seamless ease that even when listeners don’t understand the words, they still get the point.”
Next up is a girl’s band from Washington D.C. and they formed in 2013. This band is Mary, Betsy and Laura and they are called Ex Hex and they are fab! (Regular readers and listeners know that I always like bands with female vocals!) This reminds me of early Go-Gos or the Bangles (when they were called, “The Bangs” and didn’t become shitty commercialism).
Next up is a band that is definitely going places! They are called The Mirror Trap and they are not newcomers to our chart. The Mirror Trap is an alternative indie rock band from Dundee, Scotland. The band have released two albums to date and they have supported fellow Dundee band The View and toured Russia with Placebo in the summer of 2014.
Finally, this week’s freebie! And it’s a Japanese band that were guests on our program a few weeks ago. Their name is Sawagi and they are from Kansai. Sawagi are a rock-dance music quartet band that incorporates jazz and funk.
