It’s time once again for the Top 3 Indies Artist Video Countdown for April 28, 2018! Starting off the countdown today are a female band that call themselves a “Psychedelic instro-surf band from Toronto, Ontario.” They were introduced to us by the ever alert Justin Crumpton!

Next up is a band from Italy that was introduced to us by Alex Kish over at Wassup Rocker Radio. Their name is Faz Waltz and they have been around since 2008. They like Slade, T-Rex and Bowie so we can guess they are a Glam Rock outfit? Watch it and you decide!

SPOTLIGHT ARTIST!  The World Famous Neatbeats! The Neatbeats were the main band in Ghostroads – A Japanese Rock n Roll Ghost Story and I think they are Japan’s best (and by far most fun) rock band! This their newest single and it rocks. It’s called “Bye Bye Very Good” and it’s off their just released new album, “Operation the Beat.”

About Mike in Tokyo Rogers: Mike has been a professional music/TV/radio/anime-related program producer in Japan since the eighties. He began in the music business in 1977 as lead vocalist with the legendary Los Angeles Punk Band, “The Rotters” (Sit on My Face Stevie Nix.). As a university student, he was assistant to the legendary Rodney Bingenheimer (Rodney on the ROQ – KROQ Los Angeles from 1980 ~ 1981.) Top 3 Indies Videos 4/21/18! Lucy & the Rats, The Neatbeats (Jpn), Twinkles, Prefab Messiahs!

It’s time once again for the Top 3 Indies Artist Video Countdown for April 21, 2018! Starting off the countdown today are four “Punk Rock Rodents” named “Lucy and the Rats.” They were introduced to us by legendary DJ, Alex Kish over at Wassup Rocker Radio. Their bio squeals: “The Rats are Aussie punk rock legend Lucy Spazzy’s new London backing outfit. According to a (sadly now deceased) witness, their sound comes across like a lab experiment gone wrong, the most delicate of hamsters being ravaged by the filthiest sewer rat whilst humming the sweetest of sweet melodies… Science gone, indeed, too far!! ….you know these rodents are here to bite you!! Here Come the Rats!!!”

I started playing this band on my regular radio show (Mike Rogers Show on Sundays 5 ~ 7 in Tokyo on InterFM897 and Nagoya on 79.5. Nationwide on Radiko.jp) and the reaction was great. The listeners loved it. You will too.

At #2 today is a ANOTHER band introduced to us by legendary DJ, Alex Kish over at Wassup Rocker Radio. Thanks, Alex! It’s a Garage Rock outfit named the “Prefab Messiahs.” Their bio states: “Micro-legendary DIY Garage-Pop-Psych provocateurs! Evolutionary genre grinders practicing art-damaged power pop, rock, crunch, jangle and general mind-infiltration.” I think it’s cool.

At #1 are Italy’s favorite punk rock sons, “The Twinkles.” These guys have been rockin for over 20 years and I think they are, by far, the best punk band from Italy today! They say their influences are: “The Boys, Ramones, Undertones, Cock Sparrer, Vibrators, Skids, Chelsea, Rudi, Johnny Thunders and The Heartbreakers, Lurkers, 999, Buzzcocks, Members, Carpettes, Jolt, Generation X, Beatles, Beach Boys, Hollies.”

This song is the latest from their newest effort. These guys are fantastic musicians and they got some killer song writing  by leader Nick Mess!

It’s time once again for the Top 3 Indies Artist Video Countdown for April 14, 2018! Starting off the countdown today are a four-member band from Stoke-On-Trent (Isn’t that where Peter 118 is from?). Their name is “Camens.”  Their bio says: “CAMENS use guitars, drums and voices to create riffs, hooks and choruses that might sound at home on a playlist alongside the likes of Circa Waves, The Amazons, High Tyde, Blossoms, The Killers, and VANT to name a few.”

Next, at #2, is Brad Marino’s newest work. (Brad’s been on the countdown before). Their name is the Connection. Their bio states: “Granite states Greatest Rock n’ Roll band. Led by songwriters Brad Marino and Geoff Palmer. The Connection was formed in 2011 and plays a tuneful take on classic 50/60’s Rock n Roll and 70’s Power pop/Punk Rock. A favorite of Little Steven, the band has had 8 “Coolest Song’s in the World” on the Underground Garage. New album “Wish you Success” is the bands’s 3rd Full Length LP to go along with several other singles and EP’s.” (What’s a “Granite State?” – Mike)

It’s time once again for the Top 3 Indies Artist Video Countdown for April 7, 2018!

#1) Starting off the countdown today is…a WORLD PREMIERE! The brand new music video from our favorite punk rocks sisters: The world-famous Dog Party!

Their bio says: “Dog Party! Catchy melodies, tight harmonies, fuzz pedals and big drums; what more could you possibly want in a rock and roll band? Formed in 2007 by sisters Gwennie and Lucy Giles, the duo draws influence from the classic sounds of the Ramones as well as contemporaries Ty Segall to synthesize their own unique style. Careful listeners will also notice a nod to bands like Cub and Tiger Trap, the former of Sacramento, CA lineage as well. Adding a recent tour with Swimmers to their tour credentials that already include tour dates in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, France, and across the United States. Dog Party will be hitting the road all summer, including two Southern California Burger Records showcases. The Dog Party live show owes a debt of influence to old Bikini Kill footage they both have absorbed, and also Sex Bob-omb — that’s right, the fictional band from the cult comic book series Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. They have an uncanny ability to incite nostalgic awe in older audience members while fueling the fire of frenzied dancing in the younger ones.”

I think Dog Party are, by far, one of the hottest punk acts to come out of the USA in recent years. You’ll dig this!

At #2 is a band from Orange County near Los Angeles. Their name is Darky Dark and the Junkie Bunch. Darky Dark & the Junkie Bunch are the latest in a tradition of killer rock bands that shock ordinary fucking people out of their socks. MC5 > Sex Pistols > Dead Kennedys > Atari Teenage Riot and now Darky Dark & the Junkie Bunch! This band captures perfectly the Zeigeist of today’s USA.” Darky Dark & the Junkie Bunch are candidates for “BEST NEW PUNK BAND OF 2018!” The lyrics these guys write are just fucking awesome! I chuckled at this on in today’s song, “And when the (shit?) goes off, all the other bands will start to sound like us, and we’ll be all hipster about it…” Bwa! Ha! Ha! You’ll also laugh at the very end of the video with the funny message, “Buy our shit!” (and more!) It’s nice to hear a new intelligent band that has a sense of humor. These guys definitely have the madman ideal! I approve.

At #3 are the mighty Amyl & the Sniffers! I love this band too. They just put out an amazing press release. It says, “Amyl and The Sniffers are stoked to share their film clip for ‘Cup Of Destiny’, along with the news that they will be supporting King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard on a massive 22 date sold out tour across the USA & Canada in May/June 2018.”

Holy shit! They announced this on May 31 and six days later ALL THE SHOWS ARE SOLD OUT!!!!!????? Wow! (And where did you find this band first? Well, here. Of course!)

TODAY’S SPOTLIGHT ARTIST!  Today’s spotlight artists are three guys in a rock band who called themselves the Walkings from Tokyo, Japan. This band performs mostly in cool dives and live house and clubs in Shimokitazawa, near Shibuya in Tokyo. They’ve toured nationally, played Fuji Rock Festival and this year hit the big stage at a massive festival in Taiwan. These guys are happening.

About Mike in Tokyo Rogers: Mike has been a professional music/TV/radio/anime-related program producer in Japan since the eighties. He began in the music business in 1977 as lead vocalist with the legendary Los Angeles Punk Band, “The Rotters” (Sit on My Face Stevie Nix.). As a university student, he was assistant to the legendary Rodney Bingenheimer (Rodney on the ROQ – KROQ Los Angeles from 1980 ~ 1981.) Mike was the first and only foreigner in Japanese history to become the General Manager of a major Japanese broadcasting station (TV Tokyo owned InterFM). Has produced a few smash hit programs (some real losers, too!) and several of Tokyo’s highest rated and most famous radio programs. A recent hit Internet TV program was “The TV Show” (Set Program with “Ninja Slayer”) which, between April – Oct. 2015, garnered over 10 million viewers.  He is currently producing and hosting “The Mike Rogers Show” every Sunday live on InterFM 89.7  in Tokyo and Radio Neo in Nagoya 79.5 and nationally broadcast on Radiko.jp (Internet radio).  And he is the creator and founder of the Mt. Fuji – Atami Film & VR Festival. Also his life’s dream is his just completed full-length motion picture, “Ghostroads – A Japanese Rock and Roll Ghost Story,” which enjoyed its World-Premiere at the Raindance Film Festival in London on Sept. 25, 2017, and was released by a major Japanese motion picture company and in theaters all across Japan from Sept. 2017 ~ Mar. 2018.
