Welcome back the this week’s Top 3 videos. Today we have a special of three Japanese bands! Three cool Japanese acts!

First up is a Japanese girls band that had this particular record produced by Glen Matlock, the original bassist of the Sex Pistols! Their name is the Tomboys and I gather they are from Osaka! They have also opened for the mighty 50 Kaitenz!

‘Matsuchiyo – Life of a Geisha‘ World Premiered at the 2018 Raindance Film Festival in London, England. ‘Matsuchiyo – Life of a Geisha‘ is a documentary about one of the last true geisha in Japan. From her wartime childhood to geisha apprenticeship to the glory days of a top geisha. This film illustrates the trials of the ultimate Japanese cultural enigma that is – The Life of a Geisha.

“Ghostroads – A Japanese Rock and Roll Ghost Story,” enjoyed its World-Premiere at the Raindance Film Festival in London on Sept. 25, 2017, and was released by a major Japanese motion picture company and in theaters all across Japan.  The DVD and Blu-Ray went on sale all across Japan on June 13, 2018! It also enjoyed its Canadian theatrical release on August 31, 2018!

About Mike in Tokyo Rogers: Mike has been a professional music/TV/radio/anime-related program producer in Japan since the eighties. He began in the music business in 1977 as lead vocalist with the legendary Los Angeles Punk Band, “The Rotters” (Sit on My Face Stevie Nix.). As a university student, he was assistant to the legendary Rodney Bingenheimer (Rodney on the ROQ – KROQ Los Angeles from 1980 ~ 1981.) The Routes claim to fame is: “No gimmick, no bullshit… Stomp’n’Grind Garage Rock, Garage Punk, Surf, Rhythm and Blues, Psych… Whatever the hell WE want to hear!” This particular video was directed by M.J. DiRocco!

It’s time once again for this week’s Top 3 videos for the week of Nov. 24, 2018!

First up is a class act from Australia who call themselves, King Cornelius & The Silverbacks! This is their first time on our countdown. This is hilarious! Their bio states the origin of this band as: “The Silverbacks (4 well-dressed safari hunters captured King Cornelius in the hope of making him serve them (tea, coffee, watermelon cosmopolitans etc). Discovering that he was an ape of enormous entertainment potential, they made him their leader and formed a musical combo, adding a fourth member in late 2016 to help tame the beast…. They no longer hunt.”

At #2 this week, we take a trip to Spain and Folc Records recording artists, Juanita Banana! (Thanks Antonio!) Juanita Banana’s bio sates that they are a Garage/ Surf / Rock’n’roll band. It also goes on to say, “From the depths of the caverns and created by the unknown Tiki goddesses, Juanita Banana arrives. A band composed of five troglodytes that, based on roars, howls and sounds in the purest sixties style, have managed to form a unique, hooligan and combative concept. Influenced by bands like The Cramps, The Ventures, Vice Barons and, of course, The 5,6,7,8`s, are willing to immerse us in the wildest and most addictive side of garage, surf and rock and roll.”

At #1 is a band from Oklahoma named Skating Polly. Their bio says, “Skating Polly, a sister duo from Oklahoma made up of Kelli Mayo and Peyton Bighorse, formed in 2009 after a jam session at the girls’ Halloween party…Raised on ‘70s punk and early-‘90s alt-rock, they mine inspiration from artists as disparate as Johnny Cash, The Ramones, NWA, Nirvana, and Bikini Kill and saturate their own songs with a raw energy reminiscent of their musical heroes… Along with earning the adoration of Cervenka (whom they befriended after attending one of the X singer’s 2010 solo shows and playing their demos on a cell phone), Skating Polly has found fans in Rosanne Cash and Sean Lennon, taken the stage with punk legends like Mike Watt, and opened up for such indie heavy-hitters as Deerhoof and Band of Horses. From her wartime childhood to geisha apprenticeship to the glory days of a top geisha. This film illustrates the trials of the ultimate Japanese cultural enigma that is – The Life of a Geisha.

“Ghostroads – A Japanese Rock and Roll Ghost Story,” enjoyed its World-Premiere at the Raindance Film Festival in London on Sept. 25, 2017, and was released by a major Japanese motion picture company and in theaters all across Japan.  The DVD and Blu-Ray went on sale all across Japan on June 13, 2018! About Mike in Tokyo Rogers: Mike has been a professional music/TV/radio/anime-related program producer in Japan since the eighties. He began in the music business in 1977 as lead vocalist with the legendary Los Angeles Punk Band, “The Rotters” (Sit on My Face Stevie Nix.). We’re back for another episode of the Top3 videos for the week of Nov. 17, 2018!

First up today is a female fronted group from Amsterdam! Their name is Pip Blom! Their bio tells us: “Pip Blom is a young indie rock band from Amsterdam that’s been making waves in England, a BBC radio darling touring with Franz Ferdinand and The Breeders. Pip Blom is both the name of the band and its leader, a dynamic 22-year-old singer-songwriter-guitarist.”

At #2 is a local outfit that’s actually been around for a little while. Their name is Kate Sikora! This is from her just released album that been getting airplay on my radio show and on Rodney Bingenheimer’s program too on Sirius Radio in the States!!!

Her online bio tells us: “Like a ping pong ball, native New Jersian, Kate Sikora, has been crossing the globe for the past 7 years charming American and Japanese audiences with her indie-folk-pop tunes (that rock too!) She self-released her debut album “Grace in Rotation” in 2005 and, shortly after, moved to Japan to become an English teacher/rocker extraordinaire.”

At #1 this week is a band from Southend on Sea (I guess that’s the UK!) their name is Asylums. They claim their influences are: “Comics, Bad TV, Rock and Roll, Computer Games.” Cool! They just had a review in Traveller’s Tunes that said: “Southend’s Asylums celebrated their 5th birthday in style this past Friday at London’s Camden Assembly… it was a stark reminder just how fucking great the music scene in the UK is right now.

No one can touch Asylums on the pop-punk circuit right now.”

It’s time once again for the Top 3 Indies Artist Video Countdown for Aug. 11, 2018!

Starting us off today is another band from the exploding Australian band scene. Their band name is Tony Dork and they were introduced to us by DJ Alex Kish of Wassup Rocker Fame! Tony Dork are from Melbourne and their bio says, “Stiff bikkies! we do band.” Well, OK. If you say so!

Has produced a few smash hit programs (some real losers, too!) and several of Tokyo’s highest rated and most famous radio programs. A recent hit Internet TV program was “The TV Show” (Set Program with “Ninja Slayer”) which, between April – Oct. 2015, garnered over 10 million viewers.  He is currently producing and hosting “The Mike Rogers Show” every Sunday live on InterFM 89.7  in Tokyo and Radio Neo in Nagoya 79.5 and nationally broadcast on Radiko.jp (Internet radio).  And he is the creator and founder of the Mt. Fuji – Atami Film & VR Festival. Also his life’s dream is his just completed full-length motion picture, “Ghostroads – A Japanese Rock and Roll Ghost Story,” which enjoyed its World-Premiere at the Raindance Film Festival in London on Sept. 25, 2017, and was released by a major Japanese motion picture company and in theaters all across Japan from Sept. 2017 ~ Mar. 2018.  The DVD and Blu-Ray went on sale all across Japan on June 13, 2018!
