It’s time once again for the Top 3 Indies Artist Video Countdown. The Top 3 best Indies and Alternative Music artists for the week of Apr. 23, 2017! And, hey! Whaddya know? It’s Ladies Night (sort of) on the Top 3 Countdown today!
At #3 is Hands Off Gretel. They are a 4-piece alternative rock band from South Yorkshire, UK. Someone asked me if they were the lovechild of Courtney Love and Marilyn Manson… I just replied, “Grrrrr!” If you like Nirvana , Hole , L7 , Marilyn Manson , Rob Zombie , Brody Dalle, Courtney Love or Bikini Kill, then this could be your new favorite band. At #2 is a rockin’ band that has been getting lots of airplay on my FM radio show here in Japan (WTF? InterFM 897 Every Sunday from 8 am ~ 10 am – Please come “Like” our FB page (https://www.facebook.com/WhattheFunday76.1/) and Potty Mouth are a trio from Northampton, MA and their name is, “Potty Mouth.” I’m told Potty Mouth does “90s music better than 90s bands did.” Cool! At #1 this week is an extremely cool artist with a story that’s gonna blow your mind! Her name is Daphne Guinness. When I first saw her videos and heard her music, I loved it because it somehow reminded me of David Bowie… That’s a huge compliment that I can’t remember ever saying about anyone (excepting maybe Julian Cope or Brett Andersen of Suede)!
Daphne is an Artist, Poet, Musician + Philanthropist! Her bio says, “Daphne has worked across many mediums including music, photography, art and literature. Her support of new and undiscovered talent in fashion has been widely documented. She’s been a fixture in the contemporary art world, an Oscar nominated film producer and a muse to so many creative people. There was always the music. The poetry that filled her notebooks throughout the years and the melodies she heard from within. Now, after working for many long hours with famed record producer Tony Visconti, Daphne has completed her first collection of songs, Optimist In Black.”

TODAY’S SPOTLIGHT ARTIST! Femmepop! Femmepop is an extremely talented (and motivated) artist from the UK. Actually, Femmepop is Margaret O’ Sullivan. Margaret does the vocals, guitars, synths, keyboards, recording and the production of all her music. Wow! That’s talent and guts. I like it.

About Mike in Tokyo Rogers: Mike has been a professional music/TV/radio/anime-related program producer in Japan since the eighties. He began in the music business in 1977 as lead vocalist with the legendary Los Angeles Punk Band, “The Rotters” (Sit on My Face Stevie Nix.). As a university student, he was assistant to the legendary Rodney Bingenheimer (Rodney on the ROQ – KROQ Los Angeles from 1980 ~ 1981.) Mike was the first and only foreigner in Japanese history to become the General Manager of a major Japanese broadcasting station (TV Tokyo owned InterFM). Has produced a few smash hit programs (some real losers, too!) and several of Tokyo’s highest rated and most famous radio programs. A recent hit program was “The TV Show” (Set Program with “Ninja Slayer”) which, between April – Oct. 2015, garnered over 10 million viewers. He is currently producing and hosting “WTF?” the hugely popular Sunday live show on InterFM 89.7 . And his life’s dream is his just completed full-length motion picture, “Ghostroads – A Japanese Rock and Roll Ghost Story”which will be released by a major Japanese motion picture company and in theaters all across Japan in Autumn 2017.
